Today, some ass hat decided to run into my rear end in the easter hills mall lot with me in my car. I go to get out and he backs out and drives away, i didn’t get his plate…(brother in law’s b-day, meeting him at D&B) looked like a red cobalt/g5 coupe.
I look at my rear bumper, and he hit it just right, to where i don’t think (i hope) the bumper didn’t crack, but the paint did- almost the entire width of the bumper.
Anyone know how much that would be to fix. Since it’s cracked and not scratched i figure it’ going to be more than i can afford, and i only have 100$ deductible.
What would you do?
(if it’s going to make a difference, ill take pics tomorrow- but it’s a crack thats about 3’ wide)
a bumper respray is usually around 300 dollars. If your premium goes up, you will likely end up paying more then that 300 over the course of the payments.
If your car has a 3’ crack in the bumper skin, it’s new bumper time, not respray time. Plus if the skin got fucked that hard you should really check for damage behind it. It may be more than just cosmetic damage. Go take a close look and go from there. Maybe call your insurance company to find out if they’ll raise your premium because of a hit and run.
I’ll never understand the logic of paying for something, but not using it so that you don’t have to pay more for something that you won’t use because you don’t want to pay a lot for it. :uhh:
how did you get such a great edumacation with such sucky comprehention skillz?? nevermind my spelling:smash2:
I understand your reasoning but I will admit that I usually reserve my claims to the more involved claims, in this situation it may not be worth the claim. I would get an estimate before i did anything. I wouldnt wait to long because I believe you only have a certain amount of time to make the claim.
If your deductable is only $100 you either have not made a claim in a very long time or you are paying a super high premium. either way your deductable or your premium will go up if not both for making a claim.
Whatchu talkin bout Willis? He said he isn’t sure if his bumper is cracked or not. If it is then he’s looking at a decent bill to get a new skin with paint. Either way it would be worth a phone call to find out if his premium will go up if he claimed it. Either way, like you mentioned, if he has a $100 dollar deductible he’s probably paying for it. So if he’s not going to claim something under, say, $500 then he should really change to a policy with a higher deductible and lower premium.
I’ve only had two incidents, both a long while back, but they stuck with me for at least the following policy… IIRC
One, I didn’t claim any damage on my car - paid out of pocket to replace the front bumper cover, and I don’t recall what the damage to the other car was, but she had to replace a rear bumper on a early 90s accord.
The other, I didn’t claim any damage to my truck, but I know that Progressive paid ~$2,300 to repair the Viper.
Well, now that it’s light out and i can see it better, it is only about 18-24" wide, but still a decent size. I can only see the one side, i cant reach under to feel if it’s all the way through- but i can see where his front plate screw possibly went through and cracked probably a 1/2" section.
The problem is the bumpers are fiberglass, so any slight flex in them and it cracks, so i dont know what to think.
I’m about to go the collision shop that i went to when i totaled my tiburon, to see what the damage is.
I just paid 6 months less than a 2 weeks ago, so if it does go up, will i get a bill or will it go up in the next 6 months? And i also had to claim my back windshield a month or so ago but she said because it was weather related, it didnt effect me at all. I’m no insurance expert so thats why i’m kind of turning to you guys for some assistance.
And just if it makes a diff, here’s what my insurance history looks like:
Sep. 04, got my permit (first put on insurance)
Aug 05, got my license (Did drivers ed, so while i was under 18 i had full driving privileges, plus the discount)
April 06, got my first car- Put '00 Tiburon on insurance
Jan 07 Totaled Tiburon- Was a no-fault accident by police/insurance.
Feb 07, Put Celica on insurance
Feb 08, claimed rear windshield - again insurance co. said because it was an AOG it wouldnt effect my rates any.
All that might not be necessary, but just to make everything clear.
No fault claim, insurance should not go up. My old S2000 was parked in the city and someone backed into it and never left a note. They cracked the headlight and bent in the front fender. I filed a no fault claim and a police report and my insurance never went up.
He said it’s definitely repairable, but i’m going to be looking around 3-400$, depending on how it works out w/ it being so close to the CF overlay.
I’m going to at least call the insurance co, since it seems to be not as expensive as i thought- but if i make a claim, maybe they’ll give me enough to get the bumper and TRD spoiler (re)painted
