relax, this is a simple procedure just to see if the car actually exist, do you have any body mods…if so, ur screwed, they will investigate in more detail if it looks like a “street racer”. And yes they do check vins. good luck
do any of you realize the problem here?
these companies all ask you to provide pics and an inspection
so you take off/out all your mods, go back to stock and then have it done
afterwards you put all your mod’s back on
and now for the problem i mentioned
if you get into a write off accident, when the insuracne company sends there investigator out and they find all kinds of mods…poof!..your not covered anymore for various reasons
full disclosure is the best way to go imo
i’d love to go that route. my insurance broker said not to do anything to modify the car, or i will not find coverage for it. i have too much love for my car to not be able to drive it anymore.
just to let you guys know, i had a chat while getting a quote witha belair guy, i told him my plans, mods, … he said they DO cover modified cars. catch is… NO engine modifications. i told him about suspension, rims, stereo, body, interior… ALL coverable (1500$ in modifications wont raise the rate after that itll go up)
if you want ur car fully covered, your gonna either have to go through a broker, or Facility Association(not a insurance company, gotta go through a certain broker) its an association that give ppl who CANT get insurance insurance… why… cuz every citizen has a right to insurance:D
get an appraisal and give it to them, and tahts that. they cover everything.
This is absolutely not cool!
What a scary thought, having an insurance agent/inspector decide if your car is a “street racer” based on looks? Based on a book? Or who knows what else?
Now this will encourage lying, covering up/sleeper vehicles and just generally a low morale amongst legal & responsible car enthusiasts.
Why can’t someone put a big fat ugly racer wing on their car if they want to?
It’s already bad enough, my younger brother is almost 23 with a perfect record, drives better and more attentively than most on the road, got a good new job and is considering leasing a new car (Nissan Versa, Corolla nothing exciting $160-200/month) and the insurance companies are all quoting at LEAST $6800/year ($550/month).
So you pay off the entire car in insurance payments over the lease term. Greeeeaatt.
Something has to be done about this unfairness.
im sorry but if he has his full G then he’s just not looking hard enough.
I have speeding tickets and seatbelt ones, 22 years old, full G for about 2 years and I pay waayyyy less then that on my supra through facility no less.
on my truck I pay sub 200/month.
Just gotta start calling more people.
your brothers insurance should be nowhere near that high.
just went throgh easyway insurance brokers website to get online quotes
input the following info (very conservative info)
one vehicle, one driver, date of birth may 18th, 1986, single male, g license holder for more then one year, first licensed on may 18th, 2002 (assuming he went when he was 16)
have you taken drivers course - no
do you live away from home - no
vehicle: 2008 nissan versa s 1.8L 4 dr, annual km;s of 20,000 per year
full coverage, no violations, citations, or anything else…
results: (which are usually spot on - i was with easyway for years)
Elite Insurance Company: $2154 (bi annual)
kingsway: $4400
Jevco: $4400
etc
there were two more around $4500, a few around $5500, and then some crazy high ones where hes being quotes now.
Well cool thanks for doing that! Did you use Scarborough as the city of residence though? That is usually the kicker…
I got my results from InsuranceHotline.com BTW, as they’ve been good to me so far.
Say you tellem you do not have any mods. Then you add an aftermarket exhaust, get pulled over for “Improper muffler”, will your insurance company cancel when they see your ticket??
my “inspections” up to this day (I need to get another one within the next 20 days) have only ever included, Do you have any modifications to the car, Yes theres a CD player in it, anything else? No not to my knowledge, okay click click 2-3 pics later (one front one rear one side) glance in the car…okay thanks take this pink sheet as proof. Even my crx that had a body kit with RSX tail lights and projectors was not questioned oh and the previous owner painted inside the car center console and door inserts Orange…pretty ricer and no questions asked and no problems from TD insurance. Hoping for same thing with the 95% stock looking S13 i just picked up only questionable thing there will be the boost and A/F gauge but i may even just pop em out. And the muffler
EDIT: Im also only 20 years old (21 in June) and i pay 262$ a month liablility only on my 98 civic and my S13 both cars have primary drivers (my GF is primary on the civic and she only has had her G2 for 6 months)
an up to date on this topic, insurance company cancels my policy on the 240, because they saw my “BOV, 3 inch exhaust and intake”… LOL
I’ve never had to get an inspection done on my car, except when I first bought it 5 years ago. I’ve been with the same insurance agent (State Farm) for all that time, and the car has had the insurance taken off for winter storage and put back on in the summer. All of my families vehicles are with the same agent (7 in total), along with their houses, so that probably helps a lot though.
