insurance inspection..

so im deciding to put my s13 back on the road and call up my insurance company to get the slips (insurance broker btw…) and they tell me I need to do a free inspection first before I can get it insured again. They will provide the address and everything. Anyone know about this? kinda curious on what they look for when doing the inspection, motor swap probably?

I can guarantee they are looking for any mods done to the car, and safety things too like the frame and such.

I had to get one done not to long ago, I ended up going to a body shop that my insurance deals with. They took a few photos and stuff like that.
It wasn’t until like a month later they called asking several questions. As the previous owner was on file and they compared photos, they were asking what my gauges were for, if it still had the rims on it and stuff like that. They were mainly concerned with gauges, wondering if one was for boost, and if I had the STB’s on it.
I asked them what they were really concerned with and they replied with “major performance modifications”. That was my experience.

One of the ladies who did it, the counter girl, wrote down that my car was being used for comercial use. Which threw me right off as I had nothing in it, I had just cleaned the hell out of it because I knew the photos would be on file.
If your not running an sr20 or baller rims and what not, don’t worry about it. But this is only the experince I had, which is when I first bought the car… not re-insuring it.

i had to do this when i was 17 with my very first car insured under State Farm… they took few quick pics and told me to hit the road!

Keep the hood close put stock rims on.

Depends on the insurance company it seems… who you with?

Co-operators has these inspections when I take any car off the road for a few months and another inspect when I put the car back on the road. They didn’t seem to care

They have a small checklist… just checking for various damage/dents/dings/rust etc. Its just a general inspection and nothing too indepth. Guessing its to gather information for any future claims and they have a description or pictures of your vehicle in its “normal” condition, though my insurance companies have never taken any pics of my vehicles (co-operators, the personal, bel-air).

im with gmac insurance company, the girl on the phone said it would be a quick checkup…so probably just damages/dents etc. I’ll take my gauges off to be safe

Sooo I have to do the same thing but I need to know if they open the hood or not.

They poped the hood on me.

lol interesting.

dan, did you have a ka?

I had my insurance through td insurance. they wanted an inspection from apple auto glass. I took off my rims and put stock rims on, took out my sparco and put my stock seats back in. My car had gauges in it and a filter stock motor.

They classified my car as build for race. I asked them how do they determine this. He showed me a picture book. It was like everything out of fas and furious. lol. Steering wheels, gauges, filter, bodykit were all in there.

Funny thing was there was not anything in there that has any real performance gains. The guy says that td will cancel my insurance for having a modified vehicle.

TD is shit man…worst insurance company ive ever delt with…

lol at the picture book…pretty stupid imo

ok well im canceling insurance wit TD than thanx guys.

TD does suck. I tried getting some quotes off them. Good rates but they won’t insure “modified vehicles”.

Question: When they ask over the phone “is this car modified?” when obtaining quotes. do you guys admit to this? lol

go wit belair or rbc. belair has lower rates & they just need a safety. rbc needs nothin but charge more premium.

^^Thanks. I’ll give them a call.

if anyone needs to know, did my inspection, guy popped the hood on me…sigh

ouch, was it a KA? also does anyone know if they check the VINs?
