Sasha again, im sorry about what happened to you car, but this has made me think about whether or not i should insure my car for my motor rims etc. I’m not exactly sure what happens if you do tell your insurance company, I know that it increases, but by how much and what are the options u have etc. Im even thinking about selling the rims i just bought and keeping stuff on the downlow if you know what i mean. I know if I was in Sashas position i would be freaking out, and wanting to kill someone…
insurance will be really really expensive… good luck with everything… just get a good alarm dude… and dont leave your car in any shady places… these days… the world is just terrible. Every man for themself i guess…
My baby is gone and its looking like I have to start from scratch, I’ve lost about 30,000$…
I will still be running SG though… so im not totally out. I may drive the GS in some events this season or something I really dont know…
Yea, but I mean, these guys who do steal cars, know exactly what they are doing, alarm or not. They are prepared for the worst situation (ie. hi tech alarm or not). In this case, if i dont insure my motor why have full insurance at all? Im paying $4000 a year for full insurance, and yet, if i were to get in an accident or have my car stolen, I would still not be fully covered or covered at all b/c it was modified. Im also a little pairo since RBC insurance sent us a letter asking if any cars were modified, I told my dad to put no, but im not sure if I should have. It didnt say WHEN I got the mods, so i could say that i decided to mod the car AFTER i signed that agreement. So yet again, i might just go liability because ill get like 5 thousand dollars for a car that i invested 10 grand into plus 10 grand for the purchase. Its a question of are u willing to take a risk? I hate insurance companies, i hope they burn in hell… Just to remind everyone 647% profit in one year for INS. Companies…
I agree… I’ve been calling a few places this week. Some won’t even insure me. They REFUSE to insure someone in my age group… so annoying…
Funny thing is, car companies are posting low sales for last year… Gee, maybe if they (gov’t) did something about INSURANCE costs, alot more people would purchase new cars thus strengthen economy etc etc etc…
2 four 0 , yeah its been on my mind too. I’ve been thinking of just calling them up, and saying, how much would my insurance go up if i got a turbo installed (just say its the 91-94 motor (which it looks like) with a turbo, considering mines a sleeper, thats all that is noticeable). It would work out fine if what they offer is acceptable, but if it is too much and i say nm, then i dont know if they’ll inspect me, and come check my car out ect…
… not sure what to do.
You want to know what happens when you get in an accident and the insurance company finds out you have an illegal motor? It’s called non-disclosure and they are not required to cover you.
Ask Mr iQuabob about that.
I was thinking about this as well.
Well to protect your car, get a kill switch and some locks for your rims.
As for insurance, maybe you could do it this way.
If you go to buy an SR, get the place to write down on a receipt that it is a KA, then if anything happens, give you insurance company a receipt. You can say you replaced your old engine with a brand new rebuilt one, which is not illegal, so they would have to give you some money for the engine.
I’m not 100% sure that this will work however
i suppose this is a stupid question, but sr20det’s are illegal? and how much is it to insure a stock 240 right off the bat?
Contrary to popular belief, insurance adjuster’s are not morons.
As soon as they see IC piping your cooked. Even if it’s a KAT, once they see turbo, you’re done. You need to tell your insurance company about stuff like that, or you risk NO coverage if an accident occurs.
I’ve had many chat’s with my neighbour, he is a co-owner of alstate here in kitchener. This is exacty what he told me.
i think he meant in case it is stolen so you get some money back for the rebuilt engine, but im sure your right
Damnit everything regarding insurance is a lose-lose situation. So basically im paying for full insurance for no possible reason b/c if i get in an accident with a diff motor, they wont cover me anyways…wtf is that bullshit. Im gonna really think about this, i might just go liability b/c im paying an extra $2000 a year for no apparent reason. Ok another thing, if YOU cause the accident yourself, will the insurance company pay for the other car although your car has an sr20det, and its unknown by your insurance company?
thats why the FC is nice
i told them that i i got a rebuilt motor and they said it doesnt matter, they just boost the value of my car for comprehensive.
its pretty much a stock motor
Thats the question, i’ll ask my neighbour to find out for sure. But i’m pretty sure that they don’t have to cover you. And if they do, don’t exspect to have insurance when it’s over. And then try finding another insurance company to pick you up after loosing coverage for non-disclosure.
Insurance is a big scam anyways. The story goes as this: My mom was driving my jetta a few years back and skid into a curb, caused 3000 in damages. Then again last summer my mom is backing out of a parking space and smacks a car…absent minded. My parents had to pay out of there own pocket to repair the other car becuse Alstate (yes same company) only allows it’s clients 2 claims within 5 years, berfore they terminate your policy(most insurance places are like this, whether it be a windsheild or theft, or curb damage). The question i pose is this, Why are you paying for insurance if you can only make 2 claims and then get terminated? Whats the point?
that might have been true, except the insco. didnt realise that Andrew was really Bing…lol
not even an insurance company is any match for me…lol…not yet anyways
got andrew fixed, had my new company ignore an old cancellation, and saved $600 a year with all my tickets etc.
oh, and i told them about modifications to my exhaust and stereo.
you are not really dealing with insurance companies people, you are dealing with people who act on behalf of insurance companies and use their own interpretation of company policies.
people can be influenced.
the insco. told me andrews claim was too far out of date and would not be settled. it had passed the deadline and nothing was owed to him and the case was closed. a week or so later he had his cheque. even after teh adjuster saw his motor.
