For all of you that have an sr20 swapped in your 240’s
how do you handle that with your insurance? do you tell them?
I’ve been told that you just have to call your insurer to change your car into Hot Rod status and apparently it doesn’t really reflect on your premiums
Anyone with an sr20 that has experience on this, feed back will be welcomed…
Also, I have also been told the sr20 can be tuned to pass emissions, what are the steps involved? Pro’s and con’s of doing this?
I asked my insurance about an engine swap, they said they will cover it. In the case of an accendeint they will fix it, if parts are more expensive it starts to eat into your 1500 of aftermarket value coverage. They told me I don’t really have to call to tell them i’ve swapped motors. The only reason I would call them would be to add to my after market parts coverage which is 1500 now and each addition 100 is 5 bucks a year. When you call to tell them you have swaped motors sometimes they will ask you to go do a saftey thats all wont’ affet my premuins at all. Now all companies will be diffrent so I would just call to find out for sure.
most companies will cancel you when you tell them you have an engine swap with a turbo, they will think you are going to use it for street racing so they don’t want to be liable
honestly, just keep that shit to yourself, don’t tell them about it,
when i called for a quote on my car they asked me questions if i will be going to car meets and track days, i told them maybe once in a while and they said they will not cover me and hung up…imagine if you tell them you have a souped up turbo engine
wow you guys must be with some gettho insurance companies, hanging up on you? dam mine said no problem happy to cover me and my rims sound system w/e. I even talked to him about taking it to the track they said at the track I’m not covered but I sure am on the way there and back no problem. Then he just said but for example and I don’t mean you but if you are racing on the street and crash you are not covered same goes for if your drunk.
I’d watch out with holding back info from your insure cause if something happens and then they find out your car is modified they might try to make it illegally modified and get off of paying for something serious.
Why not just called them and ask them just don’t give them your policy number.
A few years ago I was insured with the Co-operators and had my Civic with motor swap my work truck and my house, they called me one day and asked me questions about my cars, me trying to be honest I told them that the civic had a motor swap the girl told me that they could no longer insure the civic but would be more than happy to insure my truck and home, to that I told her to F$%# herself and her insurance company. Lesson learned keep your mouth shut when they ask you about motor swaps or performance parts.
I got third party insurance on my 240sx, so i don’t care a two shits what the insurance companies needs to know, cuz if i get in accident or something happens i m still paying out of my own pocket for it, esspecailly since i m not over the magical age of 25 were all insurance companies think ur magically mature or some stupid shyt. Don’t tell them what they don’t need to know.
that’s what i’m debating…
i actually only have 3rd party on my 240 so i’m not really worried about damages…because i know if the trash the car knocks on wood then the onus is on me.
However, the thing that concerns me is that…what if a minor fender bumper occurs…and the guy decides to sue (had this happen) they obviously didn’t get anything…but just the act of sueing requires money due to lawyer charges.
the insurance company checks my car and tells me they wont cover me because the engine is different…i’d be royally screwed.
I’m with TD Meloche right now. So far they had no problems with any of my upgrades…including the drifter kit that i installed. Anyways, will be calling them later on today so wish me luck
yup…
just called…
apparently even a bodykit is frowned upon…
i just so happened to get away with a “sport package” on my vehicle…
perhaps i should switch insurance carriers?
yea i’ve wondered about that too… like which insurance companies are actually ok with mods and what not… i’m with statefarm… and just assume they probly won’t cover… what company is everyone with? Bel air?
I asked bel air to quote me on my Nissan when i was getting my winter beater insured, it was cheap and they asked me if it was modded right off the bat, I said yea since I didn’t really care then he asked if i wanted the mods covered. He said he they don’t care long as it’s legal and safe.
I’m with TD molech monnex? something like that and there fine with it, engine swap and all. When I was insuring my winter better I asked Bel Air to qoute me on my 240 and they asked me if it was modded. I asked them what they mean and they said radio or wheels? He said they always ask then I said what if it has diff engine body kit and wheels he said it’s not a problem they want to know if I want it insured so if something happens theres not issue down the road everything is settled now.
i have the same insurance company ( td meloche) they didn’t ask me if my car was modded all they asked was does your car have a stereo system and if the car have a car alarm on it… just answer them what they need to know… and if they don’t know that your car was modified just tell them they never asked you when you had it insured… how much are you guys paying for third party insurance btw? just curious
