But I do not understand, on an S14 i would be paying like $200 a month with full coverage
Actually I just did the quote and I got $190 per month on a 97S14 with full coverage
I heard Bel Air Insurance ( www.belairdirect.com ) is pretty cheap and also PC Insurance ( www.pcinsurance.ca )
For PC you gotta get an online quote #, and then you can call them…
edit: I pay 120 bucks a month for my S14… full coverage… I live in Toronto (close to downtown), I’m 25 though and the car is in my name and I’m the only driver…
Like Benson said, you shouldn’t be paying more than 200-250 a month…
Benson how old are you and where do you live? whos name is your car in??
I am 22, clean record, that was baised out of oakville, it is about 20 more per month out of mississauga.
and that was the car under just me.
there was a big difference after I had my G for 4 years
How old are you Ty? And how long have you been licensed for? AFAIK PC Insurance doesn’t like to deal with people under 25.
Your absolute best bet is Bel-Air Direct. Go do their quote right system right now (Lith pasted the link) and then call them with a follow-up.
My rate dropped in half when switching to them.
Lemme know what your quote is with BelAir.
It may be outta wack because they are viewing you as being a new full time driver because you have been under your parents policy. Now you are going to be a principal driver and they are treating you as somewhat of a new driver.
I have an older sister and she was the occasional driver under my parents so I had to go out on my own right away and get my own policy right away when I got my car on the road.
ya but look around, there are places that will still count that as “Experance”.
hey I am with TD inshurance. I am 21 been driving since i was 16 got my G last year and have a clean record. I have my 95volvo and my 240under my name in the summer. Its 220 amonth for the volvo and then an extra 75 when the 240 is on in the summer.
dont go by the quote on the internet just call and get a quote form them or call a broker.
and don’t drive with out inshurance.
The BelAir Direct quote is a guaranteed quote and it’s a lengthy quotation process. It’s not just some bullshit you see on insurancehotline.com That site is there to make money.
BelAir’s site is to obviously make them money but it’s also to insure you. Their quotes are guaranteed for 30 days and are actually what you end up paying.
(Ahaha actually when I called on them on the phone afterwards, they told me my rate was $100 less than it showed online.)
So yeah. Ty- do it. Do it noww!!
oh man, have fun with that…and your quotes will probably refect your tickets. Just go down to the MTO pay the $10 and see what is on your record,
I’m 22 in a month. pay $350/month on the Cefiro.
good luck.
spd-dmn is right… PC might not like to deal with people under 25… so your best bet is bel air…
ty, since u own a shop put it under a commercial insurance policy as a business expense and right it off at the end of the year as a business expense also…it will work out that way for sure…just make sure u register mssc as a incorporated entity first so that the company is liable as far as getting sued by other drivers goes not you as a person…its a very, very simple process.
i use PC right now, but i would switch in a heartbeat to anyone cheaper.
and you guys are wusses.
dont ever be afraid about getting sued… i’ve been sued for $1,000,000 and i think i lost too… you dont see me beggin on the corner do you?
the reason i say i ‘think’ i lost is because it was covered under insurance, not auto insurance. if you are a dependent under your parents you have nothing to worry about if they have insurance on anything. i say this from experience.
First of all I want to start off by saying im sorry about your dad passing away, my father passed away when I was 22 and I know it’s not easy. Second don’t drive with no insurance what you could try doing is reducing your coverage like put only liability and fire/theft on it and raising your deductable to the maximum instead of the minimum. If it’s still too high then you could try the out of town thing and PO box addresses don’t work anymore so it has to be a residencial address. Or you could keep searching for a cheaper company www.insurancehotline.com some people get a good quote some don’t, all I know is that it worked for me and up to this day I still haven’t found anything cheaper. If this doesn’t work then I guess you might have to sell your car for a older s13 :dunno: or you can just bite the bullet and pay through the ass like I did when I was young, for like 3 years I was paying almost $600.00 per month for my Buick! It was terrible, I was working to support my car
Anyway that’s all I can sugest, what you will do is up to you, once again Im sorry to hear about your father and good luck with the insurance thing.
go w/ bel-air, cheapest for me, but I coujdln’t go there b/c family is on another company
I also heard bel-air offers discounts to students?!?!
Bel air is cheap dude. I’m the same age as you, and I have an at fault accident, I pay 330/mth.
Word on the street is belair dumps people with any at fults…
I do not think you are a wusses becasue you want to drive with insurance, don’t want to be liable if sued, fined and have your rates massivly increased for 6 years.
I call that being responsibul and mature. you are not going to always win the law suits if you are incountering them all the time.
If you’re not having any luck with Insurance Hotline, which is good (has saved a friend of mine), then start looking through the Yellow Pages and calling companies & brokers.
Think of any personal connections to reduced insurance rates you may have, such as school/work etc. Seneca offered me discounts to one company for example. My dad’s workplace had reduced rates at another company, etc.
Whatever car you drive is going to cost just about the same as your beloved Kouki based on my insurance experiences, so i’d advise on this topic being more focussed on whether or not you are going to be able to drive in the next little while. If the rates are that bad, maybe just garage the car for a while until things are looking better.
My advice would be don’t give up, but don’t drive without insurance.
