I’ve had to fix a couple PS3s which stopped reading disks (a 20gig and my own 40gig), anyone else want a broken PS3 fixed? I need to order parts to fix another one, might as well make the shipping worth it.
$130 to fix the disk read problem.
I live in Milton.
hey, i work at the sony style square one , it;s not worrth fixing the unit, if you send it to head office it will coast you $190.67 just to look at the unit and plus the parts. if you can get it fixed for $130 go for it but than againg. for $399.99 u get a new one which is a 80gb pm me or call me if u want a new one 647 298 2901 mark.
I’ve repaired this problem a few times already. Why would I want to spend $400 for a new unit when I can fix it for $100? There is nothing else wrong with the unit, it just can’t read the disks.
If anyone else has a unit with an expired warranty who needs the blu-ray drive replaced let me know, I can fix it for a lot less than Sony (as rocco mentioned they charge $190 just to LOOK at it, not even fix it).
I smell commission. Anyway, back on topic, my ps3 is having this issue, possibly interested. Are you replacing the drive, the laser, or the tray/deck? Do you use genuine Sony parts? Are they new? and if you are only replacing the laser, is it the brown clip or the white clip model?
I replace the whole deck, the price difference is like $10 between the deck and just the laser so why not get all new motors too?
I can’t say which clip I’ll get, so far all I’ve got are the brown clip ones but ‘supposedly’ the older 400 series lasers are becoming rare so that may not last… (I know what you’re referring to when you talk about white vs. brown, has anyone actually confirmed that the whites ones really are refurb and not just a different manufacturer?)
PM your model number because there are two laser setups for the PS3 and they aren’t compatible with each other.
Obviously I’m not doing Sony sanctioned work so please keep in mind that any work I do will void your warranty… but if your PS3 is over a year old then there is no warranty anyway!
I’ll hold off ordering my part, if you confirm I’ll buy faster shipping so we get it sooner.
you can find guys on Kijiji that fix it for less! i bargained a guy down to $100 flat to fix my PS3 bluray lens! or theres a DIY kit on ebay for $100 as well!
Can I get this thread cleaned up?
Yes you can do it yourself, not everyone is comfortable opening it up and doing the work just like anyone can change their own pistons in their engine, not everyone is comfortable doing it and if you do it wrong you’ll do more damage than it’s worth.
