Ok so its about time to get a new car. My talon is old and doesnt appeal to me anymore. My mustang is currently hit and the insurance company is being a dbag about it being a hit and run. I’ve been driving my grandfathers 1988 cherokee Chief and i’d rather not drive that :D. I have a little over 14 grand saved up for a new car and i need some opinions. Im currently stuck between a 2000-2002 audi s4 and an srt4. I want to run low 13’s and have a dependable car. I havent read to much about the srt4 and its dependablilty. I know alot of people with them running easy 12’s with not alot of mods and there not breaking it driving down the road. I rode in one and im not too impressed with it other than it being quick. The handling isnt that great, the looks arent that great but i for some reason kind of like them. Plus i like the 4 door . Now for the s4. I love how it looks with some nice rims. It handles good but it is kind of big and would take alil getting use to driving it. Are these expensive to mod…Ive been reading up on them and with just a chip and minor mods it claims low 13’s. Ive found a couple for around 12k with about 80-100k on them so ill probably have to do some maintenance on them. I would love to have a s2000 but im too big to drive one plus i would be winter driving and rwd and winter dont get along. This car would be a daily driver and needs to at least get 17mpg. Can anyone enlighten me on these 2 cars or any other suggestions for around my price range. I have 14 but would rather spend around 11-13 so i can buy a few mods for the car and not have to break into my life savings for them. It doesnt need to be race ready as im just going to cruise with it and occasionally take it to the track. Thanks for any help.
For 14 grand you could have a stock beautiful low mile m-6 f-body . And get over 20mpg. And run low 13s stock.
…and have a fierce mullet, and get the respect of double-wide owners everywhere
Thats the 3rd gen reputation
If you like the SRT-4 you could consider at new Mazdaspeed3. They aren’t quite as quick in the 1/4 and they don’t have as much aftermarket support since the SRT has all of the Mopar Stage upgrades, but it does handle better than the SRT-4. It may be worth looking into for you, however you will have to spend more than what you have saved up, however the monthly payment would be extremely low if you put that much down on the car.
hell yeah you know theres some hot trailer bitches out there. Gotta have something fun to do at night.
Throw your cash down on a used sti and finance the difference.
The s4 is an eight year old hi-performance audi. Maintenance might be a bitch (re: costly). I know nothing about srt4s.
I didn’t know it was restricted to 3rd gens…what do 4th and 5th gen sterotypes include? Gold chains, bobble-head Jesus, gun rack?
:stupid:
but other wise i like STI’s
thats what I did. I put 10k down on mine, and financed the rest. having to use 5th gear in the 1/4 mile FTL if you want to run 12s, and have reliability the MS3 isn’t the car I don’t think the srt is either. I seen guys at PRP running 14s with mopar stage2. getting any FWD car in the 12s consistently, and it being a DD just isn’t a practical goal.
forget about the audi.
if the goal is a reliable 12 second car for 14K. unless you want to buy something cheap, and do a swap or turbo I hate to admit it, but you might be stuck with the ls powered f body
he said he doesn’t want rwd, b/c he wants to drive it during the winter… that rules out the f-buckets and the rest of the cool cars.
14K could be a nice down payment on a new G8?
G8=RWD
Out of the choices the op has listed i would say the srt4. The S4 is a really really nice car but like shalerpunk said the maintenance might be a downfall especially if you plan on beating on it down the 1/4.
haha… i’m an idiot…
wrx?
ya i love the 98+ fbodys but i just dont see them as being a smart buy for me. Maybe after i buy a house and save some extra money i could build one. I cant stand the older boxier ones. There not my cup of tea haha. Thanks for the input on the s4. I talked to a s4 owner and he said they dont run consistant high 12’s low 13’s unless u do the ko4 turbo swap which is something im trying to avoid. He said it isnt to bad to fixing it up unless something big breaks then it sucks. The mazda isnt a bad car but i dont like how it looks and isnt quick enough . As for the 14 second srt4 with mopar stage 2… I guess that person cant drive? My buddy ran high 13s with just an intake and he isnt the best driver in the world. As for the finance part. Im trying to avoid that if at all possible because i know if i decide to finance ill buy an evo and i really dont need another 4g63 in my life. Ive had enough of them. I know there backwards of mine and run the twin scroll turbo i know nothing about but .Sti’s are really nice cars but if i was going for the battle of the evo or sti i would have to go with evo. I could get an rtitle evo for 15k its a 2004 redone but it has a body kit and has been repainted bmw m3 silver. You might of seen it at Prp. I would have to spend alot more to get it stock bumpers and get it repainted a stock color though so it wouldnt be worth it to me. Does anyone on here work on S4’s or drive one and know alot about them. Im leaning towards one after riding in that kids. His just has an intake but was a was a nice ride and looked good as hell with the rims he had on it. Could definately be better with a reflash, intake, exhaust. I found someone local selling a 2000 s4 with 86k for 10k. Im looking online trying to find a maitenance schedule for a s4. Found one for every other audi.
Haha
cobalt ss supercharged with a few mods will easily do 13’s. mine is an automatic 2.4 with aftermarket turbo and i run 13.4
The S4 is a good option, but just be prepared to pay if something breaks/goes wrong. They handle amazingly for a DD, and the interior quality cannot be compared to anything else mentioned, if it’s in decent shape.
The S4 might not be the fastest, but it will get (nearly) the same gas mileage and will be the most comfortable out of all the options. Not to mention handle as well, if not much better.
The S4 is sexy, but I would never buy one unless I knew I was handling all the maintenance from day 1. There is just nothing simple about an Audi and it seems that when they break it happens in a gloriously expensive fashion.
You can run 13’s in a WRX with some mild upgrades and avoid your “financing-means-i-may-as-well-get-an-evo dilemma.”
An SRT4 is still just a NEON. no matter how fast or quick it is. It still says Hi to you!
