Japan 8.9 quake - Tsunami

The scenario that we’re seeing play out here, that Bing is referencing and courgarspeed is stating another way, is NOT something that hasn’t previously been role played in Japan and in developed nations around the world who are at risk. The magnitude of this disaster is shocking to look at yes, but it’s NOT new or unconsidered.

There is a lot of misinformation out there right now on TV (and in this thread) and I don’t have time to address it all. But I will say this; Japan is a volcanic island chain next to a subduction zone. The US is not. Anyone on TV saying this could happen here is only partially correct if only because the odds are so incredibly low that they register in the single digits, while in Japan it’s expected and accepted as part of life. And anyone using this to say it’s the “end of nuclear power in the US” is only doing it for political / personal reasons as our standards in the US are actually higher than Japan and our geography and geology are vastly different. It’s the essence of an “apples to oranges” argument.

Fuck, I giggled a bit.

.

Meh.

More like, “So much for the booze cruise.”

You’re kidding yourself if you honestly think real science and facts have anything to do with the advancement of nuclear power in the US. Public opinion is all that matters and if these nuclear plants in Japan end up releasing a large amount of radiation it will kill any chance of seeing a new nuclear plant here in the US for at least 20 years.

I’m optimistic but not holding my breath. Look what “The China Syndrome” did to nuclear power in the '80s… Jane Fonda, lol.

As I post this NIKKEI futures are down 1270 points after the Japanese Prime Minister announced radiation was spewing from the plant and told all people within 30km to stay indoors. This is after the 6% sell-off yesterday.

I think they are obviously being on the safe side with the warnings and there is still little actual danger, but with that said things have only been getting worse. I don’t think anyone can really tell what the end result will be.

Godzilla.

I think it’s pretty easy to see that is the only possible outcome to this situation.

LOL…WUT??? Rocker…you fell off one.

HAHAHA I LOL’ed. Nice.

Wild and they are possibly going to be a catalyst in the US markets correcting. Get ready, might get interesting. Oh wait, the markets are always interesting.

i think brent and josh picked up on what i was saying…

looking forward to seeing which of you guys make some timely investments and book a tidy profit off this with the predictable trends that will result form japanese markets as a result… didnt some of you dudes book double digit returns on BP?

Gilbert Gottfried Fired As Aflac Duck After Japanese Tsunami Tweets

 to Aflac.

I say  to Aflac. All of these companies are such tightasses. Some off color jokes on your personal Twitter do not hinder your ability to be an obnoxious duck voice.

Shorted EWJ this morning and bought UCO. Either they have a nuclear catastrophe and their economy tanks further, or they don’t and they need a shitload of oil to start rebuilding.

really Joe?

From a buddies FB…

Poor Japan can’t catch a break. Now another explosion at their nuclear power plant and more severe radiation leaking. I think we should send over Kanye West, 50 Cent and Charlie Sheen. They are so awesome that they can do anything. I say lower them in the reactor room and let them fix the problems.

Best plan I’ve heard so far.

Yeah really. Everyone is too sensitive. Making a joke doesn’t harm Japan any more than all these people posting on Facebook about their thoughts being with them helps.

i actually agree with you even though it’s a dipshit thing for GG to do right now.

it’s basically discriminating against people with poor judgement and shitty values… i was 90% sure you’re not allowed to discriminate against religous people?

hmmm ok

it’s not that you’re wrong. “sticks and stones…blah blah blah”, but that doesn’t make it OK. I’m not gonna jump on some high horse and preach, but clearly he said it KNOWING full and well that he had a large audience. He has 65,000 followers, that is hardly a “personal account”. It’s not like he sent a private message to friends, he broadcasted his insensitivity to 65,000 people ON PURPOSE.

So yeah, it doesn’t make the situation any worse physically, but I am sure that he has further upset at least a handful of people that are actually DIRECTLY affected by what is happening in Japan. That is fucking class-less.
