Japan 8.9 quake - Tsunami

lets keep this on topic please…

lol in before 240sx_nismo, welmer and jdm_only create a suicide cult for 2012

anyway back on topic looks like they think the probability of a nuclear meltdown is pretty low, hope that is true for japans sake

i struggle to find a suitable precedent for this, however, you can add another catastrophe to the mix now… the economic impact.

Oh… and 2,000 bodies found on the coast: LINK

OMG::: Gizmodo | The Future Is Here

insane video

we bitch about unexpected rain and snow here. to experience that degree of devastation in such short amount of time in person, watching everything literally wash away. that moment will give you a whole new perspective to the meaning “life is precious”.

its truly sad to watch this unfold before us, while some people don’t even realize or have a clue about how good they got it.

Are you trying to say you don’t find evidence that earthquakes cause tsunamis and after a major plate shift(earthquake) it is followed by many aftershock quakes? Well it is in here

I have a copy of 7th edition here if you want to borrow it sometime. Also the economic aspect is certainly terrible but economic hardship following disaster is hardly a new concept.

The nuclear potential disaster is simply a link between man made existence and the natural disaster. Also a common link in severity of the disasters impact on man is his planning and existence in the effected area.

The San Francisco earthquake of 1906 is a great example of how our short sight is cause for the real disaster in relation to the disaster itself.

If you want some quick info about natural disasters shoot me your e-mail. I have a bunch of my completed homework from the class still. Hands down one of the coolest classes I have ever taken.[COLOR=“Silver”]

I think the scariest part of this whole thing is that when this event is over, most of us will forget about it untill the next major disaster. Hopefully though the masses are learning to recognise the consequences that are associated with our actions. I don’t think the world is gonna end by any means, but i think this is a really good “wake up” to those who previously thought it was ok to dump mercury into the ocean or release toxic waste into the seafloor.

Tis time to recycle and buy toyota prius’.

But hey, we all got our own opinions on the matter, but i think we can all agree (yes even you weird dude talking about the economy being the cause of a natural disaster) that this quake, along with the haiti quake and the tsunami a few years back, really change our views on what is necessary and what we need to do if we wanna live on this earth much longer.

Either that or we all dump our money into space exploration RnD so that we can go fuck up another planet when this one breaksdown lol

““Either that or we all dump our money into space exploration RnD so that we can go fuck up another planet when this one breaksdown lol””
i dont think thats gponna happen any time soon, cuz nasa is on a stand still with exploration, we are dependong on other nations to go explore for us… FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU wtfery

You realize that you didn’t have ONE period in that entire thing… I don’t even bother reading such poorly written bullshit. Keep your conspiracies theories to yourself, they make you look crazy.

Back on topic, my uncle was supposed to be in Tokyo right now teaching English, lucky he didn’t go.

We’re fucked…

Please explain how dumping toxic waste into the ocean would cause an earthquake. Cause my understanding is that the plates of the Earth moving, has nothing to do with pollution.

Also, satellite images.

Incredible First Hand Video

WOW.

This quake was not caused by pollution, global warming, man, mickey mouse or any other lunacy. I seriously can’t fathom that anyone would believe it was anything other then tectonic plates moving.

It is sad to see the severity of this disaster. The videos are all real eye openers and very shocking they almost look like movie footage.

i meant the combination of earthquake, tsunami, nuclear, now economic impact… on a developed nation… heck, people are even talking about the volcano’s being upset there now…

Most attention, though, has been focused on Dai-ichi units 1 and 3, where operators have been funneling in sea water in a last-ditch measure to cool the reactors. A complete meltdown – the melting of the radioactive core – could release radioactive contaminants into the environment and pose major, widespread health risks.

Edano said no Fukushima reactor was near that point, and he was confident of escaping the worst scenarios.

International scientists say there are serious dangers but little risk of a Chernobyl-style catastrophe. Chernobyl, they note, had no containment shell around the reactor.

“The likelihood there will be a huge fire like at Chernobyl or a major environmental release like at Chernobyl, I think that’s basically impossible,” said James F. Stubbins, a nuclear energy professor at the University of Illinois.

First good news I’ve read about the nuclear plant problems.

That is good news.

Yeah the waste gases can explode all they want as long as the fuel rods don’t melt their way out. Chernobyl was just retarded. Thankfully the Japanese are way smarter than the Russians. Even then the prevailing winds will just disperse it out over the Pacific so there still won’t be 2012 type disasters. Maybe some 3 eyed sushi specials but that’s about it.

Unreal images still rolling.

In it all though, the nobelity of Japanese society is truly admirable though. You’d expect the country to be in utter chaos with looting, rioting and violence, yet they remain remarkably composed. Guess that’s what happens when your culture revolves around respecting others. HUGE respect to them.

The death toll may not be as staggering as some other major disasters (I’m looking at you 2004 Tsunami), but they have a LONG road ahead of them with so much of their country decimated and left non-existant.

very good news about the nuclear plants.

important distinction to make since there is so much negativity about nuclear power out there right now.

Yeah, the news keeps throwing the word “meltdown” around and 99% of people assume that means Chernobyl and that’s clearly not the case. The ratings aren’t as good if people aren’t thinking Chernobyl though.

Already you’re seeing a nuclear power backlash in the US.
