JUICEDZ4 build thread

Thanks man.

Teaching you how to TIG might be tough. Im a shitty teacher. Just start doing it, thats how I learned.

Dan

there is no wax on wax off to welding, the most you can teach is setting up the machine. Everything else is all by doing it.

Love this build, the amount of work / time is crazy.

Thanks!!

Finished up the midpipe and its hanger tonight. Just need to paint it up now.

Also finally cut out the plates (again, with my trusty bosch jig saw) for the monoball setup. One is basically all done. I just need to make some relief cuts between the control arm holes so it can go all the way in (its short by about 1/8"). The other still needs the cup welded and the reliefs cut.

monoball plate vs. stock balljoint.

Dan

why stop there? it’s tubular a-arm time son. do work

Ya, I wanted to, but I want to wait until I completely redo the subrames too, as I want to move the inner mouting points up an inch. So to keep this years snowball to a minimum I decided to just do the ball joints.

Dan

no better time than the present…

Nope. Im being good this year so I can acutally drive it this summer.

Dan

lookin good.

Thanks!!

Little progress today

Picked up the beam and my door panel skins from powder yesterday. Managed to get one door panel on. Which I think look much better than the raw alum.

Dan

Few pics of the rear suspension coming together. Im still short some hardware and I need new alignment shims.

And, pulled the trans and clutch.

Gota figure out what Im doing with the flywheel. If I should just have it resurfaced or I can buy a new Sachs one for $50.

Dan

Pretty good progress this week.

Tues I finished welding up the ball joint plates. I also got the bearings pressed in and painted them.

Tonight I bolted one in.

The new flywheel came today. Tonight I got the flywheel, clutch, transmission, starter, cables, mounts, driver side suspension subframe etc etc all back in. I also pulled the struts and knuckles out so I can ream out the ball joint holes and Im going to shorten the strut tubes 3/4".

Im headed over to my buddies race shop sat am to bend up a bumper support tube. Im really hoping by the end of next week Ill have that on, and most of the suspesion together.

Dan

ETA on running? We need to have a cruise together this summer.

Im hoping to be done by the end of March, earlier if possible. I really dont have a ton left that I NEED to do. Maily get the suspension back in.

Lets see:

  • ream knuckles for new balljoint studs
  • shorten front strut tubes
  • assemble front suspension
  • replace pass side front brake soft line
  • rework pass axle jack shaft bracket (so I can run equal lenght axles again)
  • finish exhaust side pipe(s)
  • finish rear suspension assy
  • finish bumper support and new headlight mounts
  • rewire headlights
  • mount and have new deck lid painted
  • install drivers door panel

Thats the list of needs. There is, of course, always a list of other less important ‘wants’ to do.

Dan

Dan, I love the level you’ve gone to with this car, can’t wait to see it done!

Are you going to have re-designed every item and piece on this car before getting it on the road? damn

Is this possible?

Pretty much. And I did acutally drive it last year, some. Like 500mi.

unlikely. Tho I think the wifey is finally getting tired of the constant changes. Probably after I “finish” this round of mods I need to get her project done, then focus on getting a barn built before the next project(s).

Dan

Bent the new bumper support tube today. Its obviously just sitting there as it still needs some trimming etc. As is its 18lbs lighter than the stock support.

More to come on that in the following week.
