Just a little update on the house/garage

My seams look like shit up close. I sanded my ass off for days and my seams still looked bad. I used 3 coats of primer and 2 coats of eggshell paint and it hid most most of my mistakes. It is my basement after all, so I didn’t really worry too much about it.

As for the floor, I bought it from Home Depot. It was $.98 p/ sq ft. It looks great when it’s down. You are more than welcome to stop by and look at and walk on it once it is put in.

That sounds like work
I’ll wait for pics

Sounds good, I am hoping to get it done today, but I keep getting side tracked by my job. Fred Jackson referred me to Fitz. He called me this morning and wants to buy a motor home. Hopefully it will end his interceptions hahaha

So after 2 solid nights of work, I have made good progress.

Starting putting the pool table together to get some of the pieces out of my way.

43" Samsung Plasma and a Boston Acoustic soundbar

This is what I plan to do with my table, except I will be using a blue felt. I am going to paint the table black just like this one. Keep in mind I bought my table for $250…with the stained glass light and all the accessories. This one is also missing the bottom side rails that go under the bridge holder.

Looks good so far.

Remember with the first coat you basically just want the tape to stick to the drywall and that is it. don’t worry about covering or hiding the tape. And be sure to squeeze out all excess compound , and make sure there is a good amount underneath before hitting it with your knife. Air pockets and uncovered areas are the devil.

Looks good.
I was looking at laminates just yesterday… I will probably end up doing the same as I do not want to spend a lot of money on a basement floor.

Looking good. I like the floor. Drywall finishing is pretty easy to do, but hard to make it look really good. In my experience the mesh tape cracks. The paper works MUCH better.

X…

What are you doing for HVAC down there?

Well the boiler I have for the baseboard heating through out my house pretty much heats the one side pretty good, but then again I haven’t really experienced too much cold weather. I am going to hang one of these on the wall and tap into my gas line:

I spent last night getting the slate on the table, leveled and filled the screw holes and seams with water putty. I am going to sand the putty down and do the 2nd coat tonight before I put the felt on. I ordered new felt, should be here in a few weeks, but in the meantime the current felt will work just fine. Also cleaned up the stained glass light I got with the table and got it hung. I need to position it better, but I wanted to get the table in place first.

If your looking at Lowes, don’t go with the cheapest stuff. I think it was like $.68 p/ sq ft. Step up to at least $.98 p/ sq ft. The differenece is a 5 year warranty vs. a 15 year warranty. It is worth the little extra you are going to pay. Use vapor barrier, its black and has double sided tape on the bottom to stick it to the floor. The new foam also has double sided tape on the bottom. It will make installation so much easier for you.

I’m looking into ways of minimizing that hollow sound. At the end of the day, it’s just a basement, so I will get over my pet peeve if the price is right.

Maybe if I get a tax return, I’ll commit to something.

Yeah mine does have that sound to it. My gf said she feels like it is going break all the time when she walks on it, but the stuff is super durable. Honestly, you can’t beat the price of installation. The other method would be an epoxy, but then you have to deal with a cold floor. Between the vapor barrier, foam and floor, the insulation is pretty good.

I just mounted one of those gas wallmount units in my basement. I had one at the last house and missed it. Those things are really nice, but you really need some fresh air too. When I run it a lot, i need to pop open the glass block vents for an hour or so just to get the smell out (no plumbing leak, just that gas smells when you burn it).

I had a feeling that might be the case, but I am ok with that. It will be somewhat close to a window down there. Not so close that I lose all my heat, but enough to get some fresh air.

if you haven’t put the ceiling in yet you might want to relocate the two lights right in front of the TV.

Thats funny you mentioned that because last night I unscrewed them because the glare was so bad. I am going to snip the wires and move them to the other side of the room where I need more lighting.

Pool table done!

Today I hope to get everything in place and put on the floor moulding.

Nice, that’s some fast work. In regards to the heater, I actually feel like it keeps the floor above it just a little bit more comfortable too. odd as that sounds.

It’s a big table too. 9’ x 5’. It takes up a lot of space.

Played my first game on the table before I had to come into work for a bit. I love it! It’s so smooth, it pockets the balls so good and the bumpers aren’t dried out. I also got my couch brought over, hung all my sports things and installed the dimmer switches for all the lights. I also straightened out the pool light and centered it.

My cover that came with my pool set that I got for Christmas:

Poker anyone?

I am coming to the end of my work. I have to install a door, paint my tv stand, install the floor moulding and some other minor things. I have yet to decide what to do with the other side of the basement floor. It’s somewhat painted green and I haven’t decided whether I am going to continue the flooring or put some carpet down.

Let me know what you think!
