Just a little update on the house/garage

Finally got my RO system installed. Needed to buy a pressure reducing valve after replacing the main lines. Took the Psi up to 90 with the new lines in and had to reduce it down to 60 for this system.

Next project now that I am working on now that I have good water:

Bumping this back up. I’ve been knocking more walls down, rewiring old shitty wire jobs and building new shit. The whole 9 ft. pool table idea was a bust. I never use the damn thing and it collects more shit than I know what to do with. I decided I’m taking it down and converting the spot into a small woodshop. I will be posting it for sale soon, it’s a big table…

I have also been busy doing this:

Great job getting the pipe level guys!

This is where it got interesting…I was tearing down drywall/plaster and found someone’s stash of Qaaludes in the wall. These must be from the 70’s because that’s when it was banned and wasn’t really too popular again after that due to the availability being cutoff.

I’m assuming the Q stands for Quaalude…

I started this last night:

Here’s my inspiration…Pinterest find…

When I did this basement remodel, I never did anything with this wall since I basically had to wrap it all the way around the stairs and into the kitchen. I knew it was project for a later date. Besides, that railing the previous owners put on to pass the FTH inspection was a complete joke. It wasn’t even mounted in the studs. First time we put pressure on it, it pulled out of the wall. Not to mention they picked the cheapest, ugliest option available.

We are limited for storage space of coats/shoes. When people come over, shoes generally pile up at the door on the landing and it’s impossible to walk through. That’s where my idea came for the cubbies and coat rack. I designed it, built it and installed it this past weekend. This weekend it will get paint and the finishing touches. I have more work to do around it and the stairs will be getting new flooring as well.

Current projects I have going for spring include:

New driveway being installed once temps. steady out above 40 degrees.
Kitchen remodel: reface cabinets, new hardware, backsplash, glass inserts in some cabinet doors, new floor, new countertop/sink…already installed a new faucet and lighting fixtures. Appliances are fairly new as well.
Install crown moulding in living room/kitchen
Repair/repaint foundation inside basement, can see some of the green in the pictures posted above and also need to repair/repaint the outside as well.

For the kitchen, I used an app that I bought for $10 to design my kitchen and try and mess with colors/layouts. The colors aren’t really that close to what we actually landed on, but it was cool because it helped me to show the various sales reps what we were looking to, specifically the countertop people. Here’s what I was working with:

I realized I never posted this in here either. This was my summer project, probably took a major beating this winter, but I plan to stain it this spring anyways so I think I’ll be ok.

And I was left with it looking like this during the November storm… :fuuuuuuuuuuuuu:

Nice. I like how you include a cat tower by the window here:

HAHAHAHA I had to throw that in there for my gf. You how those women are with their cats…

That outside rest/hot tub area is fantastic! I never thought of doing something like that. I wanted to have some concrete poured which would cost a ton to make a pad for chairs/table etc, but that looks great and much more cost efficient.

Save those Ludes man. Those are the Lemons (delayed fuse) and are still good to get you to the Cerebral Palsey face. Hope you pulled permits for all that work. Calling inspectors now.

The sad part is that I actually made my house safer than it was before :frowning: so much hack job wiring in this house

Do you typically strive to make it more dangerous?

I don’t, but the people before me sure did. Rat’s nest of wiring with a mix of knob and tube wires…

Making good progress on this. Hoping to have the trim done and paint on this weekend, but I’m pretty busy, so we’ll see. The more I see the floor, the quicker I want to replace it. I have to be patient though…there will be a lot of work going on with the kitchen and the floor has to be last.

4 ft. just wasn’t enough…

Lights are just set in for now. I have to sand the panels they are mounted to and then paint them. I’m very happy with how they turned out so far.

I like the organizer next to the stairs. Seems like an efficient use of space, and they are easily accessible. I like the lights too. Seems safer.

Thanks! You can see in the last picture where I usually kick off my shoes. I had them stacked on these stairs, but it just got to be too much. Always having to move them when cleaning and nowhere really to hang coats other than the ugly coat rack hanging on the wall. That’s where the idea came from for the top recessed storage. I figured that was wasted space inside the wall, so why not use it.

The brown and tan baskets above the stairs, are those under an landing, or did you build out the shelf?

I built out a shelf. It starts at the bottom of the stairs going to the 2nd floor. I tapped into the main beam, then brought it out to the back of the first available stair back and then started my usable shelf space from there. I knew what baskets we were buying so I just used the measurements to make sure I wasn’t bringing out farther than I had to. I still need to get things in and out of the basement since I plan to put my wood shop down there.

Didn’t get as much done as I wanted this weekend as I finally caught a bug and it put me down for a while. Got the paint done Thursday night/Friday afternoon. Just have a few pieces of trim left to put on, but it’s pretty much done.

I am moving onto the kitchen remodel and the floor will follow soon after. Driveway, glass blocks in the basement and a chimney knock down/rebuild are happening soon as well. Going to be a busy spring, but I hope to have everything done before summer. I’d really like to enjoy my boat this year.

The lights are a nice touch

Anyone who’s friends with me on FB or IG gets to see these updates as I go.

New Bay Window got installed last week. Finished up the paint/trim on Monday.

Spent the better part of last night getting my mancave reworked for my tools. Probably going to throw a couple coats of primer on the wall just to brighten it up and I will probably frame up a few walls to hold the sound/dust in. I’m getting ready to place the order for all my dust collection equipment/hoses, etc…

Probably going to start on the kitchen cabinets soon. Just ordered my counter top today and the flooring should be in soon. I’m hoping to through this before the driveway gets redone. This weather keeps setting me back, but it’s also giving me a little more time to get this stuff squared away.

Your curtain rod needs a center support…and it’s an 1/8" low on the right end.

Great work.
