Just another garage / shop build thread

Stupid pictures per post limiter.

now that I’m a homeowner, these threads interest me way more than any car build thread.

ballpark $$ figure all said and done?

I’m avoiding doing the math, as I don’t want to think about it, but I’m going to ballpark 60K.

Good stuff

This is awesome!

60k?

Should have bought a Shelby…

You might have better luck trying to convince him to make his garage 2 tone, unless he already is?

You should’ve bought a garage.

Trade?

My garage is 3 tone. I move in a different direction for occupied space.

I have a plan. I let you park the GT500 in the garage from time to time and you let me drive it from time to time. Seems fair. It will more than likely be two tone. If 2TURBOGT500CTSVLEXUSMUSTANGTWOTONEZ is going to have one if his old rides parked in there, then I have to pay homage with the two tone color scheme.

Looks like this is going in the right direction. What’s the final approved plan/layout

X…

I think you left out about 82745092856 of his vehicles.

A little progress this week. Seem to be moving a little slower than I expected, but that’s OK I guess. Should be setting trusses next. I’m figuring on completion sometime mid next week…at least for their portion.

Sorry, been a little busy. Trusses went up Friday and the roof should be sheeted by this afternoon. Shingles scheduled for delivery tomorrow morning and I’m going to go out on a limb and anticipate completion by late this week, early next week. Oh yeah, also busted out two dump cart loads of the original concrete walk (seen in the background of pic #2 ) so that there’ll only be new crete all around the garage, up to the entry door. More to come…

Nice! I’ve been wondering a lot about this. I know pole barns are put up the same way, but what is the reasoning behind not pouring a pad and footer? I don’t know much about this but it seems that it would be stronger with a pad. Enlighten me please, I am a bit uninformed in that area of construction.

Did your wife kick you out yet after seeing the size of that thing?

Woah that’s nice! Room enough in there for your lift?

Concrete footer would normally spread the weight of the above structure out over a greater area of the soil. When you think about a house, all the framing materials, drywall, finishes, furniture, roof loads etc. there is a lot more weight to distribute. With the pole barn the poles, and their subsequent concrete footings, carry the weight which is really just the structure, wall finishes and roof load. Much quicker to build and not a real need for all the extra concrete and excavating labor. The pad will be poured inside the perimeter of the walls so no load on the poles from that either.

I liked their method of wall construction with the 2 x 6 walls between the posts. All the horizontal members are 24" o.c. so all the insulation just gets cut to length and popped in. I also have what amounts to a traditional stud wall to run all my electrical and mount any / all boxes. Most pole barns are constructed with bands of 2 x 4’s or “girts” around the perimeter of the posts leaving a void space on the interior.

HELL NO! She saw it probably about two weeks after we started dating and it was the main reason why she married me. You don’t let something that big get away!

Dude, seriously? The whole project was designed around the lift. Wouldn’t have it any other way

Roof sheathing complete and most of the storage loft flooring installed today. Shingles tomorrow morning.
