Just another garage / shop build thread

Thanks @1QIKZ

Slab is 4" near the floor drain. Everything else is 5-5 1/2". The pod areas are at least 6" dug out so figure 11-12" there.

Rental application sent via PM.

Visitors only at this point. “Storage vultures” already circling.

I just wanna live there man! Do you accept pets?

Haha… never heard that term before but I’m keeping it. My mom swears I talked her into buying the house she has now just so I could store all my crap in the small barn sized two story shed out back.

The way things are going you’d be my room mate. My wife has the impression this is just a big fun toy box to hold future and current toys. She doesn’t think I’ll actually be doing anything productive out there. She’s been happy to park her car out there a couple times though.

They’re real man. You can see their eyes when they come over and stand there and that stare says “what kind of shit can I bring over and stuff in here? Does this guy owe me any favors?”

:giggity:

where is your old space downtown?

Larkinville area. Smith / Seneca streets.

Lil bit of progress, actually a big step really. Drywallers had some stumbling blocks on Saturday but showed up on Sunday morning at 6:00 on the dot and had the whole place hung by 12:30. Busted ass and did a great job. Finisher should be coming in this week and when I get back from Disney near the end of the month, I should be ready to hit the painting hard and heavy. Still need to get the staircase set and some minor framing / details but the big stuff is pretty much complete. Still need to hang a few more sheets of plywood and connect the flex gas line to the underground line and extend the interior line inside my existing garage.

dayumn dude!

What I really need here on one of these shop builds is for you to do all the work and then move so I can buy it turn-key.

Killer stuff.

Thats a big job to knock out in one day.

Awesome. Lookin good.

Dan

Damn skippy. When a crew knows what they’re doing and the right guys are doing their “thing”, it’s amazing what you can bang out in a short period of time.

Wow! This looks amazing.
I skimmed through quick, did I read somewhere that I can store some stuff here over the winter?
Thanks cuz.

I only bang out for a short time :pimp:

Sure. State law requires that because of it’s size, whatever I store for people needs to be over 750whp, delivered with a full tank of gas, ignition keys, and a broken odometer and fuel gauge. Other than that, I see no problem.

super cool man!

Well just a couple updates since last. I got most of the interior completed. Did the painting of the ceiling, walls, and plywood interior as well as complete pretty much all the finished electric. Got a friend of a friend to hang the heater and I’m keeping it at around 50 degrees. The insulation must be doing a good job because when I’m out there it only kicks on once every 45-50 minutes or so. Still waiting on delivery of the brighter ceiling lighting so it’s a little dimmer in there than I’d like. I’ll take some pics as soon as I get things cleaned up a bit. I had to jam my trailer in there as the brakes and tires need some attention.

I bought a tool box and some storage racks from Harbor Freight now that they have a location in the Southtowns. I bought one of their boxes before and for what I use it for, and for the money, it’s hard to beat. I’ve always wanted organized storage for fasteners because I hate rooting through boxes, buckets what have you for the right bolt, washer, nut screw, etc. I also wanted to make it mobile on wheels like everything else I’ve done for the shop. With some leftover plywood, a couple 2 x 4’s, and some casters I bought at HF, I really made something I think fits the bill just perfectly. They had a “mobile” version of this that cost more but it had less bins and I figured whatever I built would be better and more suited to what I wanted it to do.

I know buying from HF can be a crap shoot but I was pretty impressed with the quality of the storage racks. I was going to mount them back to back but I realized the way they make their hanging bars for the bins, so you can use the back side as well. So why not double my usable capacity? I already had a bunch of smaller storage bins already and was thinking of where I was going to mount them. Making the platform a little wider and I had more stability and room for larger buckets / boxes of nails / screws / etc. I’m probably going to head over there tomorrow to grab another 40 or so bins and this should provide me with all the organized storage I’ll ever need. I already put all the fasteners I could find in their respective bins and next time I have a project, I can just wheel the whole shebang to the project instead of running back and forth to some fixed or wall mounted unit.

All done I think I had about 5 hours to assemble the units, make / paint the base, mount the casters, and mount the racks to the base. It may sound funny but I need to say it. Having a usable and organized space to make something as simple as this was satisfying, uplifting, and made me feel like I got something done and actually enjoyed doing it. I guess that’s really what this whole build is about. The more organized I get the better I feel about starting another project, auto or home related, because it’s a joy to make and work on things when you’re not spending half the time searching for what you need.

I don’t think the thread about this site being “dead” is necessarily true. I haven’t been on here long enough to have seen how the site has evolved from what it apparently used to be but if it’s what I understand, people got older and things in their lives changed. I’d like to think that some of the “build” threads are more about building places where car builds can continue. Let’s face it. Young people rarely have the financial resources to build the “dream garages” or “man caves” they want to when they’re young. To young people, much of their income is spent on cars and the builds happen however they can wherever they can. I enjoy the build threads that are on here and I hope to be able to add to them now that this build thread is reaching an end and hopefully I have more time to work on cars and such, which is why I built this in the first place. I enjoy the site, and even more so some of the people I’ve met on / through here who I’ve worked for, bought from, helped, and in some cases become friends with. I’d like to see the meets happen more and would like to think I’ll have more time to attend them and enjoy them.

love the layout you went with, that side garage door is mint
