just some questions involviing nissan 240sx

what years of the 240sx’s come WITHOUT the pignose front end… i am really interested in getting a 240 at the end of the summer… and im looking around for what i would like to get and for some reason im not feeling the pignose front end… i like the smooth curves of the other… as well as if anyone has any insight on which is better… as in which year. for problems… or engine upgrades…(stock) like if one year comes with a better engine… i know when i owned a honda accord ex-r it was the faster of any of the other models because it was a delux model…
as well what years have power everything because i dont personally like manually rollling down my windows and shit bahah…

thanks for everying… POST ALL THAT YOU KNOW NOTHING IS IRRELIVANT… cept i know im gunna get a manual i dont car for automatic… (they are boring) haha

one more question …
WTF IS HICCAS??
whats better HICCAS / NON-HICCAS…

You are most likely looking for a chuki 240. Chuki is 91-93. Didn’t come with the pignose, and had the DOHC engine giveing slightly more power. As for power options, just look around and find one with power everything. Also, you have a better chance of gettin one with VLSD in the chuki. HICAS is 4-wheel steering. IMO, don’t like it, and I know lots of others don’t. It’s not the end of the world if you get a HICAS model, it can be eliminated, or if you want, you can keep it if you like it. You can get leather interior, but it is rare to find, just look for an LE. The chuki came with the nicer 7 spoke wheels opposed to the tear drop wheels.

Great information… explain the hicas more if you dont mind…
and what the hell is VLSD or w.e. you said that ill get in the chuki?

It is not a guarantee that you will get the VLSD in the chuki, but more likely. It stands for Vicous Limited Slip Differential. So opposed to haveing an open differential, you will have a locking differential. Better for handling and burnouts :P. It means that your wheels will spin at the same time opposed to haveing one spin, and the other being stationary essentially.

I don’t remember exactly what HICAS stands for. Basically, if you have HICAS, when you turn, all four wheels will turn, not just your front two. I think it makes for sharper corners, not 100% sure on that though. Non HICAS is just the front two wheels turn. IMO non HICAS is better and easier to handle. Then again, that is what I have heard, and have never driven a HICAS car.

ya mine has HICAS and the only thing it seems to be doing for me now it weighing my car down and sucking up more precious petrol :stuck_out_tongue: it supposedly weighs like 30+ kilograms for the whole system… would rather not have it

Yeah like they said HICAS is a 4ws system that turns the rear wheels a few degrees in order for more tigher smooth corners. 1- drifters hate it, its terible for sliding. 2- For me and my street drivin Silvia i really dont mind HICAS. I do a little bit of drifting but mostly just a drive it like a daily and IMO i really like HICAS. Its awesome when driving on the highway or in small parking lots. But like i said thats just my opinion. I just thought i should add this in becasue everyone sounded like they were siding with the HICAS removal.

Personally I like it, it makes u turns a hell of a lot easier. I’m not going to drift my car so I see no reason to remove it.

Bump GREAT POSTS…
MORE FEEDBACK PLEASE

how do you know that u have vlsd?
or do you just gotta test it? :E

Great question… one that i would have asked… because that is something i would like on a 240sx i buy…

Safe place with no cars around. Car is stopped. Turn the wheel, hammer the gas and get the tire(s) spinning.

One black mark = open differential. Two black marks = VLSD.

Yeah double post FTW. But MyGTR is right thats about the easiest way to test it.

only problem with that is that im sure the person your buying it from would not like if you did that??.. haha…
Fuck

jack up back end by diff, put in neutral. Open diff, one wheel turns, other doesn’t move. VLSD, turn one wheel, other turns as well (should be same direction IIRC…I can check tomorrow)

a viscous LSD is not locking. a locking diff will cost you a lot more money than a VLSD as you can’t get a full 50/50 torque transfer between wheels with it… but for the money (if your 240 comes with an open diff) a used vlsd will do nicely.

You should post your question on NICO it is the biggest Nissan forum around.
