Kamil's 95 KA24DET project

Thanks dude! I need to get the bike fixed up so I can keep the miles low on it

Nice pickup, I love the red. If they would have kept it for 2013 I’d be driving a red hatch instead of black.

I started assembling the fuel system yesterday, still waiting on a couple fittings:

Changed em over to 11mm for the AEM fuel rail:

Used this to lube it up, it’s for my RC trucks

After battling with the bottom O-ring I gave up and called Treadstone to get some clarification. At 1st, I was told that they should fit, they put me on hold and return saying I should be using the compression O-rings that came with the kit. So I did:

You will NOT need the big O-rings that sit in the intake manifold to run these injectors:

Super glad I bought the tools to assemble the AN fittings. Makes it so much easier:

I hope to have the rest finished this week.

I’ll never make AN lines again without the specific tools. Without them it’s such a pain in the ass.

 to progress! Looks good, man.

looks very clean so far. I was wondering what had happened to this build.

Agreed. No more bloody hands and frayed out wires. Took me ~10 minutes to make that piece.

Thanks for the kind words.

Thank you!

I lost motivation and energy to work on this when I went on night shift in May of last year. 10pm-9am, 4 days a week. I’d come home, hang out for a few with my wife and go to sleep. My weekends were anything but productive :frowning: I got sucked into another hobby too, I learned how to fly collective pitch RC helicopters. It so addicting, it’s all I wanted to do:

Then I started seeing my friends posting their finished, running projects and I just felt like I’ve quit on mine. I’m actually not going to be completing this build on my own. I’m going to finish the fuel system plumbing, reinstall the interior and the car is off to Innovative for the rest. I’m just glad I didn’t quit the build altogether to sell it off. I did a lot on my own and a few bits with the help of my friends. At this point though, I’m just ready to enjoy the damned car already. It’s been 6 long years since I drove it…

6-years, yuck! I couldn’t imagine still being into a car for that long lol.

It’s gonna take a while for this to get old once it’s done. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.

Well…looks like there has been a slight change of plans. A good friend persuaded me to stick it out and finish the project in my garage. Work will continue this weekend. Fuel delivery will be wrapped up followed by the interior re-install. My wife is getting a bit agitated that I store my parts in the house. Pshh women, some of them just don’t understand lol.

I’d like to get someone over to my garage create/weld up 2.5" aluminum charge pipes for me. Most of it is straight shot with virtually no bends. They will need AIT and BOV flanges welded on as well. I’ll pay you for travel and labor. cough Cougarspeed cough:cough

Progress! Re-installed most of the interior and finished up the fuel delivery. It was fun trying to put the interior back together, which I didn’t document or label at all since I removed it all 5 years ago… Lucky for me the 240 only has like 2 types of screws/bolts holding the interior together. As for the fueling system, I just need to clock the regulator vacuum fitting towards the source on the manifold and install a vacuum hose. Here are some lame ass pics from today:

This weekend I plan to start installing all the power steering stuff I bought 2 years ago. While fiddling around with the P/S, I’d like to drop my transmission off to get rebuilt/resealed but I’m unsure where I should go. Can someone recommend a reputable shop?

If I remembered where I had mine done I would NOT recommend them. My 4th gear is crap sometimes. From what I’m told it’s not a hard thing to do though. I believe @1QIKZ had a go at his and was successful.

No worries. I called a bunch places for quotes but figured I’d post here 1st for some testimonials. I’ll stay clear of the enterprise shops (AAMCO, Continental) because they charge an arm and a leg for the work. I think I might go with these guys: http://www.quad4wheeldrive.com/automotive_services

I have 2 of these transmissions. One with ~176k and the other ~214k mi. Going to order all the external seals for sure. Is there anything else you guys recommend replacing? Everything worked fine other than some shifter slop, which I think I can repair myself by getting a new bushings from the dealer.

I started shopping around for a cat-back today. I want to retain the stock look of the exhaust, which has a dual tip muffler. The only manufacturers that make this style exhaust are ISIS ($300) and MeganRacing ($350) however, both are out of stock with no ETA on when the next batch will be made. I tried several sources and they are all waiting on the manufacturers. Instead of waiting around, I will do the same exact thing I did on my old GC8. I bought a cheapo eBay N1 style 3" cat-back and a stainless weld on muffler with dual tips and a 3" inlet. Total spent: $138

Just ordered a few more OEM parts as well:

  • new master window switch / lock
  • new finisher for the said window switch
  • new shift boot cover

Total spent: you don’t wanna know…

I’m not an expert at it, but the basic rule of “while you’re in there” applies here. It would suck to get it back together and have something go a few days later.

Without a doubt. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what’s up once we crack it open.

Are you looking to keep the interior oem?

For now I’ll be enjoying the comfort of a full OEM interior. Eventually I’d like to get better seats and restraints for when I finally start seeing some track time.

Oh fuck yes. It’s here!

I feel yah. I hate the OEM steering wheel. Make sure you budget for a Nardi in there.

Trust me, it has crossed my mind! I’m just unsure about diameter and if I want to run a quick release.
