Kamil's 95 KA24DET project

Nah, she’s still here! Me too man, I missed it a lot since my last one. A great deal came up on CL and I had to snatch it up.

Let me know when you get the tranny in and what you think of A to Z. They’re right across the street from where I work and I was thinking of having them work on one, or both, of the Z trannies I have. Thanks.

Sure thing. They inspected the internals and found nothing wrong, so only the seals and the shifter bushing were replaced.

What an excellent candidate for some track fun!

OK, I don’t work across the street from them anymore but would still like your feedback, when ready.

You know it!

Unfortunately, the transmission has not been used yet since the rebuild. It was within spec so all they did was replace the outer seals and the shifter bushing.

Changing things up a bit. Decided to ditch the top mount and go with a bottom mount manifold. I came across one I couldn’t pass up. I’ll let the pictures do the talking. I also ordered a set of rims, which will be used on the 350Z for a bit. Once this project is done, I’ll be transferring them over. They’re Volk Racing TE37V Mark-2, 18x9.5 et15 and 18x10.5 et15. They won’t be here for another 2 months though.

Nice choice on the wheels. Gonna look sharp. This is going to be on the road this summer, yes?

Who knows man. I’m all over the place right now with projects lol.

Update:

As I’ve stated before, I’m changing things up a bit. Put in some work on the bottom mount and other crap over the past few weeks. Powder coated more shit that was spray painted when I started this damned project. Installed fresh, stainless studs throughout. New oil dipstick guide, new oil feed and return. Also installed a -4AN port in the coolant drain hole, in case I need a coolant feed for future setups. Just a few more things and it’s going back in for good (hopefully).

Had some recent familiarity of my own with that turbo.

I’ve sent/sublet a lot of work to Paul. Would not hesitate to send anything or anyone there.

Good or bad? lol

Nothing really to do directly with the turbos.

Sweet setup, looks good.

Sorry tl;dr, what turbo is that?

Also, are there any issues with that 90 degree on the exhaust to wastegate v-band? I’ve read that ideally you want a smooth transition. What I’m asking is; does it really matter in real life use?

I’m sure you already checked into this, but how much pressure can the feed on your turbo handle? Too much pressure and you’ll be blowing oil past your seals.

Thanks. It’s your basic T3T4OE, forgot the full specs on it. As far as your WG question: no clue dude. AMS built this mani and since they don’t build shit cars, I’m not so worried about it’s placement because it’s already been proven that it works, and works very well on this motor.

Update! Lots happened over the last few days. I was finally able to link up with my welder and I’m so glad I chose this guy. He’s very meticulous about his work, his welds are sexy and the guy doesn’t slack. Basically, the intercooler piping got finished on day 1. The IAT bung is hidden but easily accessible on the cold side. All that’s left to do is the pipe to the compressor inlet. We mounted the eBay catback and added some v-bands to it so that we can tie the downpipe into it. Most of the downpipe is finished up with some delicious pie cuts and melted together with back-purged beads (no pictures of this until it’s 100% done) When I left his shop last night, we were trying to figure out if we should dump or recirculate the WG as the space is tight in there. We also mounted up the 1-piece drive shaft and found out that the stock Nissan bolts don’t work with their flange. No biggie, I’ll get that finished up today with some new bolts.

The down pipe is done! Of course I would forget to take a picture of it installed but I’ll get one later today after I pick the car up. We ended up not recirculating the WG as it would’ve been a real PITA installing the downpipe with the recirc. pipe on it. Now that all the piping is done I can focus on all the little bullshit and hopefully have it running real soon here!

2017 is going to be a good year!

I love the use of v bands and pie cut bends, looks pretty solid! The wastegate placement is fine and i wouldn’t worry about it. Could it be better? Possibly, but I’d hardly consider it a bad location nor would I bother to change it at this point as long as it works for you. Let’s put it this way: plenty of successful 80’s F1 turbo cars used a similar wastegate location.
