Can I ask this… How much was this motor sold for???
I just want to gauge the “pain in the ass” factor here.
After reading it all start to finish this is what I see.
Reck got a head from someone else, put it on a “known to him” good bottom end, fired it. Ran it for a few seconds and took it apart becasue he didnt need it. Sold it you you guys.
Sure he could have torn the head and shit apart to check the other guys work, I fault him for that I guess. But if it wasnt something he was really worried about then it wasnt worth his effort to do so.
Bottom line is, I wouldn’t give 2 shits if someone said something “ran fine”. If I didnt see it running, I assume its NOT THE CASE. Dont care if its my best friend or some CL jack ass selling it. If I agree to buy it, I ASSUME the worst and plan for it. DOUBLE check the parts PRIOR TO putting it in a car. Evokilla, you say you build them for a living? How hard would it have been to take a hand full of sockets when the motor was bought, pull the VC off, check the tq on the caps, pull the pan and check a bearing or two, bore scope to check for scores, etc??? If you dont want to fix “unknowns” after the fact when you purchase something, you either come prepared to verify peoples claims prior to sale, or buy it as is prepared to fix them later if they occur. Same thing with buying a used car. Unless the seller is like me and types out a novel prior to sale about every part, who it came from, how it got there, how it was installed… 90% of the purchase is an unknown. COME PREPARED. Bring tools, take it for a long test drive, etc.
There is also no reason to shit can the entire site over this issue. I understand people fall on hard times, and shit happens, but no offense that Dylan dudes personal life has nothing to do with it. Reck is good people, and I could tell from the first post he was trying to get to the bottom of it and help the dude, while Evokilla just went on the attack.
$700. Again if I was spending that cash I would have wanted to see it run, or have the diag tools to check it the best I could prior to purchase. Just saying.
If the bottom end was good on your car but it needed a head or valves… why didnt evohkilla just fix the head for cheap, or find a head, inspect it and buy that? A shit ton less work than swapping the entire motor.
Sounds like you have 2 heads with enough parts to make one good one. If I were you just do that, sell the other head bare for parts and the bottom end on CL. Get $300 back or so and still be winning.
I am willing to work with Dylan that’s not an issue. Honestly I don’t have anything to prove on here. I don’t care what people think of me. I do feel bad for Dylan and understand what he’s going through. But just because a hand full of people don’t like me isn’t going to get me down. He and I agreed to meet up once he gets everything all set. That’s all I have to say. It’s was a unfortunate sale and I am going to straighten it out with Dylan to his satisfactory. I have nothing else to prove to other people.
You know your right. I should have tore the whole motor apart to make sure it was what was said. But it wasn’t my call. The kid is on a limited budget needed his car so we went off of what we knew or thought we knew about someone who seemed to know what he was doing. You all are right you can’t trust anyone anymore. I did come on here at first dissing or blaming any body just made it clear it wasn’t what it was said to be. And he started in with a Internet tough guy routine towards me because I made it public and not through PM. Big fucking deal. Im done with this. I’m fixing the motor with what we got. Whatever goes on between Dylan and reck is there problem.
do you work for the state too??? Kids on a limited budget, and your his friend I assume you are not getting paid for the work you are putting in, right? So yet again it has nothing to do with being on a limited budget. The time it would have taken to once over the motor, either prior to purchase or post purchase on a stand not between the fenders would have save you all alot of trouble. You guys have DAYS into this, and it all could have been avoided (not buying it if it was inspected and found issues right then and there) or took the extra time to inspect it on an engine stand instead of in the car.
GRANTED. I give people the benefit of the doubt A LOT and when someone gives me their word I take it for truth, but i give myself some overhead to recover just incase.
Example: I just sold the headlight off the Ducati I am not using on ebay. I have pics of it 100% intact on the auction, and pics of it getting put in the box and taped up. (becasue I got burned in the past) EXACTLY like this dudes trying to do to me now, saying it was broken when he got it and demands his money back asap. I e-mail him pics of the headlight going into the box and say e-mail me a pic of it broken and I will see what I can do, it was not broken prior to shipping. 4 days and still no e-mail or further response. So either he was trying to scam me and get a refund and be off with a good headlight, or he is thinking about putting a hammer to the headlight to get me pics.
I have worked out agreement with Dylan. By the time I am done he will have his gsr head just about set to go, a full ls engine and cash. Like I said I’m not out to screw anyone. I’ll take the blame on it. I should have check it over.more before selling the engine. And I’ll make up for that. I just don’t get what the shit fest was on here. It was all between me and Dylan, and I have taken the steps to set things right between me and him. Everyone on here just makes it sound like I’m blown him off on this, which is clearly not the case. all is well. I’ll help Dylan out with no problem and take the harassment on here by everyone else.
My whole argument I had with reck was with the assembly of the engine and wether or not it ran like it should for him. Sees how I was doing the work on the motor I figured that I could say something about it. And Dylan did the initial install I’m just cleaning up the aftermath. And yes I have been doing this for free cuz Dylan hadn’t had it easy for him at all with this car. I tried to get him to let me do everything but he didnt have the time he needed the car back. And reck as far as I have heard from Dylan you are stepping up and it’s appreciated sorry this whole mess got started. Should have settled it with you diff.
we’ve come to an agreement, yes, i didn’t do a total tear down before i put it in, i installed at my house, i prob live the farther away then any shift member (the other side of oneonta) when i pulled my gsr out, which i did not know what the issue was before hand, other than it smoked like a freight train since i originally bought the blue gsr. evokilla never even saw the motor till i brought it to him the day after, i got it running that morning but it never ran right from the start, and i never touched anything other than bolting my trans and wiring harness on and throwing it in. but this issue should be resolved and everybody can move on, i will just have to deal with the down time, i’m not like half you guys on here with multiple cars and that albany money. hahah. but i’m an easy guy to get along with and yes i should have done more to check it over but i was more doubtful about the bottom end but that turned out to be pretty mint, the head still looks in good shape. i just hate that it came out like this and i will just have to be more though from now on.
edit: for the record i know some about swaps and what not but i do not know everything. i did the best i could with what i had, if i had a better budget things prob would be different, i wanted to do a full rebuild on my gsr since it was smoking so bad so i was going to run a diff motor instead. even after we put the b16 head on the gsr it still smokes so i guess i’m just gonna have to deal with that for now, its obviously gonna have to be bored out its got freakin 210k on it.
You were doing all the right things from the get go, and how you conducted yourself here was far better than Evohkilla IMO. I am sure hes a good dude too, just he got pissed and jumped to conclusions I am sure.
either way you are making things better, and like you said, and I totally agree with also, just as easily could have said hit the road jack… but you didnt work worked it out respectfully.
I’m gonna say my sorry at this time too. I kinda jumped down your throat which I hate doing. You have to understand that when this was being worked on it was cold as shit and my garage would cost a small fortune to heat. So we were all a lil cold a lil tired and alot cranky. I’m happy that you’re working this mess out even after the shit storm.
I know you are all good people here, both sides of the crappy circumstances… glad you all worked it out. The car community needs to stick together, there’s enough shit going on no need to mess up friendships over it ya know.
