plus they suck if you are trying to buy something like a bday card. The weight sensor doesnt pick it up and it doesnt know you put it in the bag.

The automated checkouts @ Home Depot / Lowes are the tits.
At Martins / Tops, eh, they can be tricky, but still handy.

In either case, I’m kind of against them for the moral /job loss aspect. I only use them at the behest of my s/o.

I usually park next to people who park further away from everyone. Know why? Cus I know you arent going to ding up my door because obviously you parked away from everybody for a reason. Also, if I leave a space inbetween myself and your car then some asshat could park inbetween and cause a potentially catostrophic door dinging accident.

Yes, people DO park in clumps. But the smart ones know where to go

Or beer. You have to wait til an actual cashier comes over and overrides the computer. Kinda defeats the purpose of it.

Take hand, apply weight to top of bag. Problem solved, granted it’s annoying as fuck.

i tried that once and then it was “weight does not match item being bought” then i got really annoyed and had to get some one to fix it.

I once spent 20 minutes buying some drawer slides at home depot when the auto checkouts first appeared. I was so pissed off since the damn things wouldn’t sit still and I had to scan every single piece individually. Then after putting each piece in the bag it would move the other parts and change the weight. The cashier had to hit override after everything I scanned…

Then I realized they were made to save money on labor costs… but nothing is cheaper at the store. part of the mark up on items is to pay for the people working to serve you. Since I am paying anyway why not use the people and make them bag my shit for me.

yup. same goes for candy bars. it stinks.

But it’s really not taking away jobs at all. In fact, it hinders the little productivity the front end can actually accomplish. Ex: The Tops I work at used to have 15 regular registers, and no self-scan thing. Now we have 10 regular and 4 self-scan. The wednesday before Thanksgiving was hell, apparently. (I work at nights, so I didn’t witness it. Hearsay) All of the regular registers were open and customers were still asking if they were going to open more registers.
