Lockhouse Distillery is the first licensed distiller in Buffalo since Prohibition and it opens for tours and retail sales this Saturday 11/30 from 12pm-8pm!
This is owned and operated by four good friends of mine, and they have been waiting for almost a year on state and federal approval on labels, proofing, etc. This is a real exciting day for all of them. Currently they only have vodka ready but they have began making a rye whiskey (that will need to barrel age for some years), gin, brandy and ouzo are on their prospective new spirits.
Bars have been waiting for this day for some time. We will have it in stock as soon as distribution begins next week (I think)
I had a sample before final distillation, and it is a really unique tasting, delicious vodka. It’s distilled from local grapes and grain (NYS laws require 51% or more local product be used) so it provides for an interesting sweetness from the grapes.
Not really, it has a sweetness to it, but certainly not a “sweet” booze. It’s pleasant, I don’t enjoy sweet tasting alcohol at all.
One Roq is loosely headquartered in Buffalo. ONE of their main investors grew up/lives here. Their product is made and distributed in Colorado. Frankly, I think it’s a crock of shit that he can even slap “Buffalo” on his advertisements just because he’s from here. There are a handful of Buffalo investors in Double Cross vodka, too. That doesn’t have Buffalo stamped all over it.
I thought local bars could get it through some loophole where they had to pick it up from the distillery or some bs?
Went there yesterday and got a bottle, it’s not sweet and has a very smooth finish.
“I mean, why shouldn’t I be out tonight? Yeah, tomorrow is the biggest day, probably of my whole life. But why wouldn’t I be hungover? Everyone’s known me for this long, why should I fool them now.” -Niko last night
Hi guys, I’m from Buffalo and share a lot of the same passions you. And I also happen to love premium spirits.
However, having read the thread below on ONE ROQ, I felt compelled to interject and comment that the logic on the topic is not necessarily correct (taste opinions aside). Having met the owner of ONE ROQ and drank the product there is actually quite a bit of credibility to ONE ROQ’s use of “Buffalo” in the advertising. The business who created and runs the brand, is headquartered in Buffalo. I realize that it is not bottled here but the business is firmly headquartered here, no different than New Era, Rich Products or Labatt Blue. Are these not recognized and beloved Buffalo companies? (All of which make their products elsewhere I might add.)
Double Cross isn’t really comparable because nobody from Buffalo actually created the brand and they certainly don’t have their offices here. The brand’s headquarters are actually NYC because the guy who (“Birthed”) the brand is from NYC. His name is Malcolm - you can google this guy. So for this reason Double Cross really isn’t the same story as ONE ROQ is it?
I think you guys need to take it easy on the smashing of this guy’s brand. You both want to do good things for the city…and there is room for the both of you. Ever heard of “Coke vs. Pepsi”? Take advantage
Anyways, Lockhouse will be back up this Saturday at noon with around 600 bottles ready for sale. There is a two bottle per customer limit this time around though.
I would like to get a few bottles for the holiday parties I am hosting. Will there be an easy way to do that or is this too “hot” right now with the limited runs to score a bottle or 2
