Sad day in Buffalo...[Flying Bison Brewery] OPENS AGAIN!

http://www.buffalonews.com/145/story/933681.html

I for one love going to the brewery to get a keg and sample what they have on tap. Their beer is delicious.

:frowning:

Sad to see a Buffalo business close but I personally am not a fan of Flying Bison.

:ohnoes:

I was wondering why I couldnā€™t find bottles of it at Wegmans lately.

Save the brewery meet?

:gtfo:

I can drink again this weekendā€¦

Wow, big E just went to the flying bison tour too

Rusty Chain isnā€™t bad, but Iā€™m not really a fan of their others. It is sad to see a Buffalo brewery go under though.

Sad? If this is what it takes to keep the brewery going then why not? They were loosing money, as stated, so I think this could be a good thing.

:fry: In.

True. Better than nothing, but even if the Buffalo operation stays open it wonā€™t be the same little brewery. But yeah as long as they stay open and Timmy keeps brewing delicious Aviator Red Iā€™m happy.

Aviator Red :frowning:
Buffalo Lager :frowning:
Rusty Chain :frowning:
Their Oktoberfest was the BEST!! We got a keg of the first batch of the season and it was glorious!
Oatmeal stout :frowning:

Blows, Frost used to work there. Iā€™ve only heard good things about those guys. :frowning:

Their beer is too dark for me but I hope they survive here in some form.

Just visited them this past Saturday with my brother to catch up. This really sucks, and I dont think its a matter necessarily of not selling enough. They can only produce so much at a given time, with the cost of materials nowadays they can only do so much. The price of materials started going up when I was there back in 2008. Im willing to put in any effort I can to keep local businesses alive in Buffalo :frowning:

Start drinking!

its not really that though. they sell out of everything they produce, it really comes down to the cost of production per unit, and the margins involved. They canā€™t stay competitive on cost because they cant buy supplies cheap enough, yet they cant really increase their price eitherā€¦

Use less hops. Theyā€™re expensive and they cause bitter beer face.

EXACTLY!

Cost of materials is whats putting them underā€¦ what sucks now is that even ā€œDrinkingā€ would be a tough task in order to help them unless you sit at a bar and guzzle yourself silly off FB. I will say though, Im not a big drinker at all, but when I am out somewhere and I want a beer Im always checking to see if they have FB. I sometimes direct my dinner plans to places that carry it as well.

Sounds like the only way out is to up their volume to drop their unit cost.

Its not only the price of hopsā€¦ and Im sure if it was that easy they would do it. With that said, they could try innovating different brews that could use less hops. The beauty of FB is they have a variety in their line of beers, some that are more hoppier than others and so on. With the spring season approaching though they will be gearing away from the darker smoother beers and prob more towards the hoppier/ springier beers.

are there specific hours/days that they do the tours? Iā€™d love to go check it out. Never been there before.

yea, but they dont have the capacity to produce more.
