I bet you could rent these out for movies. You always see the coolest, most random machines in horror flicks.

Actually, the Tucker Sno-Cat corporation is still in existence. They are the oldest manufacturer of over-the-snow equipment. The machine pictured above is not a “Sno-Cat” but rather a snow groomer manufactured by, I believe, Prinoth…I may be wrong though. Ski resorts use groomers, not Sno-Cats for grooming the slopes. Tuckers are used primarily for snowmobile trail grooming and also largely by utilitly companies. They use them for accessing utility sites in the backcountry. I’ve also seen Tuckers with bucket truck bodies on them and even small cranes. Tucker even builds a “Sno-Ambulance” which is exactly what it sounds like-an abulance on a Tucker chassis for accessing injured skiers/boarders/hikers in the backcountry. Tuckers web site is www.sno-cat.com if you’re at all interested. Tucker makes several different models, but here’s a couple pics of a new Tuckers:

fancy

Wouldnt a 4x4 truck with mack tracks be nearly just as effective?

No. Mattracks cost damn near $10,000, (more than double what I paid for the Tucker) then you have to install them on your truck when you want to go offroad, then remove them when you want to drive on the street again. It’s a royal PITA. Additionally, Mattracks do not offer a low ground pressure. Granted, it is substantially lower than driving with tires, but a steel track Tucker has a ground pressure of .66 PSI. That’s 2/3 of a pound per square inch. They literally float through bottomless powder.

thats SWEET
bring that thing over.
wonder how the do in mud???

lol

OMG they make one with a mobile microwave tower on the back!

.66 psi. holy shit.

was that a lucky guess or did you look at the address?

cool, never knew there was a technical difference in the terms. Interesting that they use mechanical transmissions and have the truck appearance where the groomers are all hydrostatic. Holiday valley brings their old tucker out once in a while for events.

this is one sexy machine

If global warming turns out like it did in The Day After Tomorrow you’re going to be STYLIN!

If however we just end up with little or no snow you’re pretty much fucked.
