it’s the guy from precision auto in scotia.
That car is amazing. It has quality parts and has been well taken care of. I would definitely buy it, Gus is a great guy.
yea definitely consider that car!!
I would understand if its a great guy and a great car but will it be reliable as a DD (not planning on tracking it, etc). Because it is going to be a DD and I can’t afford to be fixing it 6 months into it so I just want to make sure it will last me… lol
The only thing I would do if I bought it would be remove the meth and tune it for straight 93. Also, while you were doing that, you could trade the turbo for a stock one to make a few hundred back.
Thats the only thing I was afraid of… i would def. want it to be 93. How hard is it usually to remove the meth (besides the tune obviously). I’m heading to take a look at it tomorrow and I think I’m going to go for it… I’m liking it pretty good so far.
As far as the turbo, unless its going to have a big affect on reliability, I’ll probably just save the hassle of removing it and having to sell it / find a stock one if needed.
the meth is easy to remove. take out the lines, controller, tank, and plug the hole where the injector nozzle was in the intercooler pipe. retune obviously
the turbo makes the car more fun, stock turbo makes it more easy to daily drive
Also, who local is good with tuning STI’s. I know boxer is good with them but can he tune as well? I’ve already bugged the hell out him enough with a couple STI’s I’ve been looking at so if someone else can answer so I didn’t have to bug him again I’d appreciate it. lol.
John@The Shop CT.
there are a couple people who do map tweakings, but not serious tunes.
I wouldn’t mind taking a trip down to CT as long as it would be drive-able on the current tune without the meth. Anyone have a rough ballpark on what a tune goes for these days?
it depends. i got my street tune done for $250. a dyno tune will cost more than that
Reputable tuner is $300-$600+ bud.
pm’d you.
Heading out to look at the STI tonight. Meeting Gus at Precision Auto around 6-6:30… then if this guy gets back to me, I’ll hopefully be looking at an Evo tonight as well. The evo is Silver, which is my last choice of colors, but it actually doesn’t look too bad with black wheels… may just take a little getting used to. But unfortunately I gotta get something pretty soon otherwise I have to dump some money into the beater.
If any of you subaru guys are bored tonight and want to check it out with me I’ll more than appreciate the extra eyes… lol.
keep checking unysoc.org
Gus deffinately has a nice one for sale
might be difficult to find one at 15k, unless high mileage doesn’t bother you
Correction… HAD one for sale. In about 5-7 days (whenever DMV gets him a replacement title) it will now be mine… lol.
I went yesterday and took a look at it and absolutely fell in love with it. You could tell he had a very high attention to detail on the car and everything was very clean. All of the work he had done appeared to be done correctly. I was very hesitant because of the amount of modifications and the fact that it was still the factory internals, but he was honest and said that he did do a couple autocross events but that he built it mainly as a daily driver and that he expects it to last.
Granted I know I am taking a risk, but I’m hoping that as long as I don’t beat the hell out of it, that it will give me at least a few good years before needing any extensive work. In the meantime, I will try to do some reliability upgrades (more on the fuel system, upgrade the oil system, etc) as I can to help it last.
I’ll also probably keep the meth injection in there for the time being. It is set up to inject automatically depending on the throttle/boost and it is tuned properly right now so I’ll leave it be for now.
He did do a quick pull when we took it for a ride and I could not hear any detonation, pinging, grinding, or any other odd sounds nor did I smell anything funky… other than a little poop stain in my pants from the amount that the damn thing pulled… def. was not expecting it. lol. it seemed to shift real smooth without any apparent issues.
I really think I’ll be happy with it and hopefully everything will work out ok.
I will be sure to post pics as soon as she is officially mine!
Fuck yea!!! Good work. You will enjoy the car man for sure
That car is tits. Congrats!
As long as the car will make it til my payments are done I’ll be more than happy (might be tough though… its a 6 year loan… lol). Now to start learning all this meth injection and all the other shit he has on it so I actually know what the hell it is… lol.
Another thing I did like is that he already as a Wideband O2 on it so I can put an Air/Fuel gauge in it and keep a close eye on the ratio to make sure I’m never leaning out (which will hopefully help the motor last a little longer).
what can be done for upgrading the oil system to hopefully prevent issues on that end?
