Hey I am a newbie to this site but not to the 240sx model, bought my 89 S13 14yrs ago, driven up until last five years when I asked a body repairman to give me quote on fixing rusting frame rails, told me wasn’t worth it for vehicle, so I stored it for four years, engine is Ka24e and ran great up until storage, I put her to bed properly and she still runs good, I have recently decided to salvage her and had another quote for frame rails and it was not worth it, does anyone know of where I can get good frame rails (was told nissan only carries sections not one piece and they are $$) or can lead me to a good shell, would be interested for $500…second opinion needed was either to “T” the engine or swap for Sr20det ( I was hoping to keep car as close to fact specs as possible as I would like to pass this on to my nephew later down the road)
Theres always shells being sold there, as well as alot of other parts. If i can remember the frame rails arnt even that much money ( $150?) but then you gotta find someone who can weld them in and do a good job. Or you can find someone to just fab something up for you.
Most franchise body shops will tell you its not worth it becasue the book value on an 89 s13 is retardedly low.
And just becasue you get a sr20 swap doesnt mean it has to be totally modded out. if you get a stock front clip you can make the swap totally stock, right down to the factory airbox. A bone stock sr isnt much faster then a ka.
Welcome like dan said frame rails arent really that expensive the problem is to find some1 to veld them and replace the rusty ones and do a good job so ur car doesnt come apart. Also you don’t have to get an sr20 there are other options with different engine swaps yes sr20 is the most simple but i still say turbo the ka24 and you will be more than happy if you know wtf you’re doing.
hahaha I just remembered an episode of Pimp My Ride.
A Ford Escort that was made up of two different cars. Half was black and half was white. The two were placed together with light spotwelds and some kind of glue that had the consistency of gum.
They opted to replace the car with a Shit Honda… And Riced it out even more.
Moral of the story, get your Framerails welded on properly or your Nephew probably won’t want to pimp it out. (Who wants to do that anyway??)
ok, I phoned nissan and apparently the frame rails are only available in sections that need to be welded together when attached to underside ( and to top it off only the fronts are available and in limited supply) and if anyone knows of a good welder or someone who would be interested in performing the bodywork drop the name, better yet if anyone knows of a good shell for sale I’m interested!!
