I found you a job then…
But there is always a catch…“No Straight-Only Men!”

Always a fucking catch! (No pun intended)
Chris isn’t straight so its cool.
I heard you like to catch…
He has scurvy?
They ARE out to fuck you. Tuition reimbursement only exists to get you to stay and work an entry level job at a marginal cost. Odds are you won’t get past the hurdles anyway and they won’t have to pay you. There are always strings attached from above average reviews to minimum grade requirements to caps on what and how much they will cover. It’s not like they just stroke you a check. But don’t worry after you graduate and you do get that promotion 3 years later - they still won’t pay you. The fucking will continue. Sorry you have no experience this is what we can offer. You will say yes because you won’t have a choice. Now they have themselves a hard working educated knowledgeable lower level supervisor/manager whatever that they are paying way below what they should be. Good thing for you is by this time they probably brain washed you into a company man and you will get up every morning thanking your lucky stars that they were nice enough to give you a job.
There is always the option of saving for years to pay for your own education…and then hoping like hell you invested well enough to offset the increased tuition.
Or you can go into debt and hope whatever degree you earn pays well enough to repay the debt + interest while allowing a reasonable quality of life.
Or you can let them pay your way, give them a few years at a lower wage then bounce.
There is no free lunch in life, do the math and go with whatever option provides better financial nutrition.
Ha! Perfect. Couldn’t have said it better myself
dont think that is true for the company I work for…depends on where you work I guess everyplace is different
I feel bad for you people that have such shit jobs.
Slightly jaded?
There’s plenty of ways to play the whole education reimbursement system. Most companies that I know of are 1 year after graduation or reimbursement. So if you’re in a 2 year program play it smart. Get reimbursed for the period up to 1 year prior to graduation. Then if there’s no where to “move” after you graduate in the company, do NOT take any further reimbursements; thus when you graduate you’re past the 1 year service agreement and are free to go wherever you want. It cost a little out of your pocket, but would you rather have to pay for 1 year of school; or be stuck in your same position for a year after graduation?
Above is exactly what I’m doing with Moog. I’m 99.99% sure there will be nothing for me to move into once I’m done with school; so my last “reimbursement” is going to be spring of next year; which leaves ~1 year till graduation, enough time to fulfill the service requirement. Thus when I graduate in '14 I’m free to leave Moog and go anywhere I want; and my loan is only $5k larger than if I were to stay; that 5k I’ll make up in a signing bonus, no problem; not to mention the salary increase.
lol at above comments for tuition reimbursement…
my employer reimburses me based on grades per class. pass or C = 50%, B = 75%, and A = 100%. they also cover any fees or book or supply cost that i may have. the only other stipulation is that whatever they reimburse me within 6 months of if i chose to leave, i would have to pay back. so at most, only one semester. if they were to let go of me, i wouldnt have to pay back a single dime.
oh and i did just get a promotion this year even though i have not finished school. the degree im working on does not impact job position, it will just get me a higher pay to do the same job. i still have the same benefits as all the other full time employees even though im in school.
sorry for those that have crappy jobs lol.
edit, i do have a 2 year degree, this is for my 4 year. so i already have my career. ill actually be the first pfp designer in this office with the 4 year. may be why i dont make any less then the others with the 2 year for being in school…
Not really. You typically just have to repay whatever tuition reimbursement you received if you leave within a certain time period. That doesn’t really give an employer much power to treat an employee poorly. I personally got two promotions within a year of finishing the degree that my employer paid for.
I had to maintain a minimum GPA, but that seemed fair. If they’re paying for it they should be able to demand that you take it seriously.
Not every company is the same. If you work for an asshole company, then that’s your problem.
I wouldnt stick around if I was being treated that way, though.
Time Warner would pay for college if you got a passing grade and they didn’t have overly strict requirements about sticking around.
If you don’t know what you want to do why not get a free college degree? Even if you have to ride out a shitty job an extra year starting a real career debt free somewhere else isn’t a bad thing.
Just don’t get a degree in something you can’t get a decent job with
Lol… teachers… (that want to stay in NY)
You would think with all you people and shitty jobs would organize more drinking meet and greets during the week.
Who says we don’t?!?!?!?! Chris, this guy’s calling us out, drinks tonight?
beer thing went off.
OT: I want a vB mod that adds a beer icon before the thread title every time beer is mentioned in a thread, lol.
