i bought an 89 180sx not to long ago with a ca18det, the car has been heavily modded and i would like to maek sure it has a nice same tune
who around here can tune a car like this? i am totally new to the import scene and not afraid to say ignorant as to where to go.
any help would be much appreciated
What is done and what are you tuning with? What indication do you have right now that the tune has room for improvement?
as for whats done i am still waiting for all the paper workt o be translated into english(its all in japanese), i no the car was previosly tuned for over 2 bar, but no longer has that boost controller in it. there is enough done to trap 124mph in the 1/4:)
as for knoeing it needs to be retuned, it runs far to rich at idle and backfires alot, there is room for improvment!
question is, is it efi tuned, or ghetto tuned?
ghetto = a/rr-fpr and afc
efi = chip/standalone
it has been chipped and has a newer computer in it i no tha much no afc in this car
Nobody around here is going to be able to read and update the tune on that “chipped” ecu…so based on that you really have no options…other than dump some cash and buy yourself some updated tuning tools.
You may get off lucky if you simply buy a wideband, SAFC and adjustable fuel pressure regulator and work on leaning it out…but if you have a car with over 400rwhp, why go cheap?
ya it is well over the 400 mark no doubt- what route is suggested full stand alone? any one in particular better for these cars?
Neetronics.
ask fer Paul.
rafi can help out or robin could do it, that is if it’s a re-chipped ecu.
You’ll have to find out which ecu it is for anyone to help you.
ok im about 90% ure i am gonna look for a standalone for this car- any recomendations , totally inexperianced in these cars any help is much appreciated
it all depends on how much cash you have. if your looking for something farily cheap i’ve heard alot of good things about megasquirt, you have to assemble the system yourself but you save a good amount of cash because of it, same as a bikirom system which is also a good alternative.
or if your looking to spend big bucks you can look into a power FC or AEM EMS
Do it right the first time, go with an AEM EMS. It has plenty of support and is an excellent tuning device. I couldnt be happier with mine. I was worried I would have a car that would idle properly or be easy to drive, not the case with the right tuner your car will feel like stock but make a buttload of power.
A Power FC is a good alternative as well.
AEM EMS, i have a 1622 on my S14 and love it to death and make well over 300whp.
Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions regarding setting up the standalone or tuning it for driveability etc.
nice do you happen to have msn?
i am currently well past 300whp on low boost and i would ratehr see what is going on inside this thing before it is an expensive paper weight
