looking to buy:98 SS Roller

just wondering if this is a good deal?

Time to get this out of my garage. 1998 SS M6 t-tops car with a cage. Odometer read right around 75k. Bought it to build a drag car but never did get around to finishing it. I sold most of the go-fast parts I had accumulated over the years. All thats left is the shell. Very clean car but does have a rebuilder title. Apparently is was rear ended at some point, I was unable to find any signs of it. No motor, trans, computer/harness, hood, rear end, wheels or front seats. Located in Baxter Springs KS which is the extreme SE corner of Kansas just off of I-44, about 10 miles west of Joplin MO. $1800

clean title? Kind of a haul from NYS. Seems like a nice deal to me

I would assume its sold

buy my Formula, $4200 more to have a running driving car with a clean title and its close to you!

i would like an ss more. and i am looking to buy a 408 for the car.

well salvage title would be a deal breaker for NY

you would basically have to return the car to 100% stock to get a NY title and then you would have to mod it

why is that 9c?

no you dont you just have to have receipts from everything that is missing…

BUY IT!!!

Do your homework on the rebuild title and you will see that NYS is kind of particular about the requirements…car must be pretty damn close to stock to pass. Also a 408 motor in an OBD2 car is kinda crazy so if you arent planning on it being a street car…go for it.

so slopoke, all i have to do is have receipts for all parts that i replaced?

it will have to pass whatever emissions standards NYS sets for it, so figure stock exhaust w cats, EGR, airpump ect ect, no SES on ect

oh and a big one, 98 PCMs are specific to 98 only and well to pass the car will need a 98 PCM

LS1 cars don’t really have that issue…the stock computer can be easily changed to pass…

Yeap no problems for me  or the other 1000 hp car

That car is not worth it if you plan on putting it on the road. You would need a complete donor car to transfer everything over. I wonder if it even has the dash, or if that was removed for the cage to go in. He did say it was basically a shell. If you were to make it into a drag car I would say go for it.

There was a wrecked SS on here (the red one) that someone scooped up for $4000. So basically for $5800 you could have had the both of them, and THEN got it to pass the NYS salvage inspection. But for $5800 you can EASILY find a car on LS1tech with a good title that even has a few mods that you would be planning on doing anyway.

here are some more pics from the post on ls1tech

and a couple more

trust me dude… that would be more of a headache than its worth to get running…labor and $$$ wise

on the bright side, the way he angled his cage gives me an idea/option for mine so i dont die

thanks for the input guys. and glad i could help turbo.

Yep when i bought my last car with a salvage title i fixed it up kept all my receipts called nys dmv to make an appointment, then found out i had to wait 8 months for the $120 inspection UGH. i would have called before made an appointment then fixed it in the mean time… The inspection literally took under 1 minute… they looked at my vins and ones that didnt match i had receipts for.

so slopoke will i need to bring it back to stock first then mod the car?
