basically what the title says … I’m looking at the SSBC Front Force 10 2-Piston Aluminum Caliper Disc Brake Kit for my 95’ Accord. Does anybody know of any places to get these cheaper than going directly through SSBC? I’ve checked eBay, a few places online, but the cheapest I could find them was $735 for the kit + $100 to get the calipers powder coated
red …
Hey at least you have rear disc!
you are going to put a $700 brake kit on a 95 Accord. Why?? IMO that is a big waste of money. First put some decent pads on the thing… that will make a world of difference.
A economy way to get a big brake kit is to get larger pads and calipers off another compatible platform. For example… I took a entire braking system off a 2001 Acura TL and installed it on a 99 Honda Accord 4cyl. This included larger rotors, larger calipers, and a rear disc conversion. Everything was a complete bolt in. The only thing that was a twist is that the car went from 4 lug to 5 lug but that is also what I wanted.
It was just that easy because I did my research. I thing the 95 Accord platform is similar to the Legend platform.
1- You need to find out which cars share the same platform.
2- You then check front rotor diameters…
3- Select the cars witht he biggest rotors.
4- check part numbers on the front uprights between the cars… if the part numbers match then you are in business and the brakes will be a bolt in fit.
5- I purchased the entire upright assembly with everything on it from a slavage yard and bolted the whole shit in.
The Accords brakes will stand it on end now… even with factory pads there is little sign of fade under serious hammering.
He could find a wagon or v6. The Legend wasn’t like the Accords much at all then.
I believe the preludes also used the wagon/v6 bigger front rotors.
i agree…spend money to make it fast first
well where alot of people will say make it fast, which sometimes is true
but like violater said strat off small, u will be suprised what iddferent pads will do, and be seriojus, do u really need big brake son the accord, u still have the stock motor in there right>?
as it stands, right now I don’t have any motor in my car. not sure what I’m doing with that situation yet
hmmm maybe I will have to look into doing a swap from another car then … as long as I can stay with the 4 lug pattern (so I can keep the rims/tires I bought last summer) I’ll be set!
Give head to ticklesmen
let me get this straight
you have a car with no engine that you want to put $800 brakes on… brakes that will never work properly on the street to stop a car that cant move in the first place, because it doesnt have an engine.
did i get that right?
it’s funny when people throw big brakes on and don’t mess with the proportioning valve. I have read documented tests proving that throwing on a front big brake kit and leaving the backs alone has actually increased the stopping distance because the back locks up at the higher pedal pressure needed to threshold the fronts. Granted, the rear provides only a fraction (30 percent?) of the braking, but it is enough to negate the gains of the new front setup. However, for a track car, you will experience less heat fade, due to an increase in cooling surface area, but again, inbalanced brakes could induce under/over steer…
Does the SSBC setup include what adjustments should be made to the proportioning valve?
I have an engine, it’s just not in the car right now. I had some electrical problems a few months ago and am trying to fix them (I believe they are somewhere in the engine bay / engine harness). Plus I had a timing issue that I fixed recently. I didn’t know that this brake kit doesn’t work for street use, thanks for the heads up on that …
Honestly, I have no idea …
I think it may. Tkkleman could tell you for sure though.
I say go for it. My philosophy is, you gotta stop before you can go fast.
I hate how Fox body Mustang guys build crazy engines and supercharge them for 600hp but don’t touch the brake system, which in all honesty, sucks a fat one.
I’m with Newman… I was wondering if the brake swap -or- the “kit” considered balance.
There’s nothing wrong with upgrading brakes, ever. So long as they are functional.
Why do the calipers have to be red?
if the brakes are too big ie. designed for track use, they are never gonna come up to temp, and his stopping distances are going to increase. also it will increase unsprung weight.
the pads need to be hot to stop the car properly. if you’re rotors are huge and efficient they will take forever to heat up.
talk to ticklemybutt, and see what he suggests. but if you arent making 100 more hp that stock, your oem brakes with a decent set of pads is all you probably need.
AAAAAAAMEN BROTHAH!!
Best Idea on this board yet so far!!!
My front mount is going to meet your front mount up close and personal on your way home from work tonight.
(That was pretty funny though…)
edit-tkklmen, where do You work?
You guys suck. :gay:
I would suggest pads/stainless steel lines first, then compatible platform swap (or maybe both at teh same time). But if you have the money to burn, why not  . It’s your car. Hybrid Connections is a local dealer for SSBC, talk to them about pricing and see what develops.
i forgot about lines. that will make a night and day difference in pedal feel
I dunno…
