PITTSBURGH – State police are advising all drivers to stay off the roads until Penn Dot Crews are able to take care of the extremely icy conditions.
State Police said they have closed down several roadways, including the entire parkway system.
Several accidents have been reported across the region.
Penn Dot crews are working to get the roadways back into a safe state for drivers.
My wife had trouble getting up our driveway this morning and I had to do it for her. Then she was going to leave our neighborhood and I had to run out and stop her from going down the hill. A few cars had already run off the road and she could have gone into a ravine if it was too icy. I still can’t believe that they had not salted at all even though they had been calling for rain/ice all week.
i didnt have much luck today leaving the neighbor hood heading down my hill locked all wheels and was either gunna hit another spun out car or hit a guard rail i choose guard rail and flipped the sob ten feet in the air.
we had probaly a few dozen calls before 9 am 2 trucks could get to them fast enough had to push some tows to another company we stopped taking them at about 1 last call was a winch out took 3 twin line trucks doubled to get it out truck was sunk in mudd up to the rockers
I got a txt from a state trooper friend in the morning saying the parkways were all closed and greentree hill was a skating rink… good thing I stayed in.
Says he was on so many wrecks today that he has 40+ hours of paperwork to get done now.
went out to try and salt this morning and couldn’t get anywhere in the dump…waited it out for an hour or so then headed out, never saw so many wrecked cars just littering the sides of the roads. Only made it out cuz the township was running the their trucks in reverse salting as they went.
