LS3 in s13/s14

its been itching my ass but i think that this setup of having a lightly modified ls3 chev’s all aluminum block in an s13 or s14 would be perfect

no worry about leaks, boosts, blown gaskets, blah blah blah troubles related to turbo setups… just NA power with 8 cylinders and less headache…

the motor weighs less than a ka24de

i mean how can u go wrong!!! buy a clean 240 build it up spending near maybe maybe 20gs all together and cross the 100kph in the first gear well under 5 seconds (ok maybe close to 4secs)

for more info goto www.silviav8.com and check out this dude in saudi arabia who is killing a corvette z06 c6 with ls1 motor and lil mods… OUCH!!! also if u really like long engine names to sound cool heres the japanese translation of ls3 ls620ohve3… no hate against sr20det or rb26dett… all respect but… think about it

and lastly if u really really need a lil more oomph… put nos in it… and have a 200000 super car performance for 20000…

wht do u guys think???

PS: I say ls3 becuase its very close the z06 motor ls7 internally and stock hp is 430 and torque is 420ish ftlbs… wow

DO IT!!! I think this would be an awsome project and way faster then an SR or RB with the same HP because of all the torque. Do you got any more specs on your engine? Pics?

blasphemy

well, i m broke right now… but in the next year or so…

theres is one motor on ebay

as for specs from wikipedia

LS3

The LS3 was introduced as the Corvette’s new base engine for the 2008 model year. It produces 430 hp (321 kW) at 6000 rpm and 424 ft·lbf of torque (575 N·m) at 4400 rpm and is SAE certified. The block is an updated version of the LS2 casting featuring a larger-bore of 4.06 inches creating a displacement of 6.2 liters (376 cubic inches), or .2 liters larger than the LS2. It also features higher flowing cylinder heads sourced from the L92, a more aggressive camshaft with 0.551" lift, a revised valvetrain with 6 mm offset intake rocker arms, a high-flow intake manifold, and 47 lb/hr fuel injectors from the LS7 engine.

The L76/L92/LS3 cylinder heads are the most advanced small block heads to date. They use 2.165" (55 mm) intake valves, and 1.59" (40.4 mm) exhaust valves. For use with 4" and larger bores, they allow for over 600 hp naturally aspirated. Improved manufacturing efficiency makes these heads cheaper than the outgoing LS6 heads, and severely undercuts aftermarket heads. The large valves, however, limit maximum rpm - 6000 in the L76 (with AFM), and 6600 in the LS3 (with hollow stem valves).

In addition to the above, a dual mode exhaust package with a bypass on acceleration is available. The dual-mode exhaust uses vacuum-actuated outlet valves, which control engine noise during low-load operation, but open for maximum performance during high-load operation. The system is similar to the C6 Z06, but uses a 2.5" diameter exhaust compared to the Z06’s 3.0". Horsepower is boosted to 436 hp / 428 ft·lbf (325 kW / 580 N·m) with this option.

Also you get awesome gas mileage if ur not pusshin too hard… almost 25 plus mpg!!!

Do you really think you’re the first person to think of an LSx swap for a 240?

http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/partsMainS14MountingEquipment.htm

i m not the first one by all means… but for some reason i haven’t seen one in alberta… i heard some guy working in tunerworks calgary, has a beamer 3 series with an ls motor! sickkkk

Not the biggest fan of putting american engines in japanese cars but…

Hp and tq numbers do not lie, look at that s13 that was on pinks.

I’d say study up and giver shit!!!

WAY BETTER BANG FOR BUCK! You can’t beat that kind of power. The LS series where really created by a hand of god.

the one he used to create satin with
i spit on the idea.

just plain lame IMO … just buy a corvette to begin with then

guys… the s13/1s14 platform and ls motor combo is saving you near 800 or 1000 lbs!! sicckkkk… i kind understand the true import love and hate for domestic but this motor is finding its ways in to r34 skyline, s2000, rx7s and of course s13s n s14s… everyone is wanting one… now i just need to start saving some dough…

Ummm…

I don’t know where you heard these weight savings numbers but they are grossly over exaggerated. You may save some weight, if you’re very lucky, but 800 to 1000lbs… I’ve only read a bit about the swap but I’ve never heard of those figures.

Just research some more forums and write ups… It sounds like a ba swap.

PS
A stock 240 only weighs ~2800lbs and the ka is no more than 500lbs (i’m pretty sure some else will probably have a better numbers).

A corvette is lame. Aftermarket for an S13 is way cheaper two I’d imagine.

i think with the ls1 swap you will save a couple hundred pounds compared to a KA24.

I’ve heard this too. But I’ve also heard they’re way closer than some think. To me, the ka (4 cylinders) being iron and the lsx (8 cyl, read: four more cyl) being aluminum, it would make sense that there would be that much savings. Like a sr isn’t that much lighter than the ka (in retrospect of course) and they’re both 4 cylinders. How can an engine with more cylinders weight hundreds of pounds less when the ka weighs less than 400lbs?

Also I heard the ls trannies are heavy mofs.

You might save 100 lbs if your lucky, aluminum block are not fetherlight like everyone thinks. And a corvette Z06 weighs about 3100 lbs and regular 240’s weigh about 2800-2900 lbs so technically you could save about 300 lbs compared to a corvette.

Get your guy’s facts straight…saving 800lbs over a corvette…

FYI The KA24 weighs 450 lbs with tranny and all accesorries.

The LS engines also lose weight and are compact because of they don’t have overhead valvetrains, turbo equipment, etc… The engine it self is lighter but the T56(tranny not turbo, lol) is very heavy so it tends to somewhat even.

the z06 is made out of super light carbon fiber and magnesium roof and wht not … i was comparing it against a regular corvette… regardless … the project is th best bang for your buck… after doing up a rb26dett … with greddy turbos… and all that kind of jazzz is not cheap either… skylineking.com has 240sx s going for 30gs… and more with rbs and 2jzs…

but for daily driving the ls3 or ls7 motor would be great reliable and tons of fun swap!

You’re only going to drive it in the summer right. I’m having traction problems this winter (yes, I have winter tires + sand bags) and all I have is a pretty stock rb25. I know people drive some corvettes all year round, but this might be a little too much power.

For a summer car, this would be a sick swap, especially with 20k to spend.
