I had squeeky squeeling brake annoyances last summer…and posted up on a few Z boards asking what are the quietest pads to get…and i got a very odd answer.
The majority of the guys said i need to purchase some lube, that apparently is common, that you apply between the back of the pad, where the piston in the caliper comes at it. The post somebody responded with is as follows:
“Id be willing to bet you didnt apply any anti-squeal lube on the back side of the pads. Most of the squeal comes from harmonic vibrations that occur between the caliper pistons and the metal backing plate of the brake pad. If your pads are still usable, head to the parts house and pick up a packet of the anti-squeal and apply it and you should be good to go. Also take a min and clean everything up, lube the retainer pins lightly.”
I’ve never heard of this before…anybody know what this lube is called? and where to get it? I just dont think it seems safe to spray any lube anywhere near my brakes…i remember driving out of delta sonic in the old car after a wash, and the soapy water alone caused the brakes to lose a lot of grip…i can’t imagine how it would feel if some of this lube worked it’s way on to the pads and/or rotors themselves…
it’s just anti squeal shit. Usually comes in a spray can. It’s just kind of a sticky goo. Any autoparts store will have it. Just ask. The kind i had was permatex brake quiet i think.
If ur just doing your brakes, or just dont do too many brakes. Just get the small packets at the cash registers of like A-Zone or Advance Auto Parts. Its like $.99 a lil pack. One pack is good for both lt./rt. front.
I do alot of brake jobs and I’ve had the best results with brakes by, cleaningevery contact point that the pad has with the caliper/bracket. Then use this lube (not overdoing it) on all those contact points. Including the backs of the pads, and then esp. the edges that sit on the caliper bracket/anti rattle clips.
HTH, PM me if u got any questions.
**I’ve seen the “anti-seize” melt and gum up. There’s a “goop” made for the sliders…I cant remember the name EDIT:^^^Silglide!! Thanks TrueBlue:) but, its very similiar, its just a higher melt point I guess.
Make sure you get the lube type not the silicone/permatex type. Years ago the thought was to glue the pad to the caliper- it only works for a short time if you use the lube type it keeps it lubricated to eliminate the squeek. I have a large tub of professional sta lube brake stuff if you want some.
ive tried all that lube shit to get my evo brakes to stop squeaking… didnt work for shit

Same here^ the blue permatex shit just baked and flaked into nothing. I have copper anti-sieze on them now… still fucking squeels.
BTW… Ferrodo 2500 series pads.

pull the pads out and the groove in between the pads will be full of buildup. remove it with a pick. Also get rid of the stupid anti-rattle clips on the back of the pads as they usually rattle and sqeual more than anyhting. bam no more squeals.
That shit works like a charm every time. Also are you using semi metallic or ceramic pads and also are the rotors the ones that have a higer nickel content?
