Rearr brakes are emitting a high pitched squeal everywhere I go but goes away when i depress the brake pedal.
Checked the thickness of the pads and they seem fine.
Checked the rotors,no bumps or cracks.
Flushed the brake sytem.No change.
Gonna swing the caliper up and check the surface of the pads just to double check to see if the pads are at their wear indicators.Any thing else that could be causing this?
Did you only chekc the outside pad because the same thing happened to me and the inside pad was worn down all the way but the outside was still fine. I had a sticking caliper. The symptoms are the EXACT same.
I purchased new pads, And had to burn the old slider pins out of the caliper braket. At the same time i also purchased brembo rotors and some kevlar cermaic pads.
To do it cheapy just grease the sliders and buy new pads.
very very common problem among every car… if the pad isnt worn out that bad, then you just have a simple case of pad vibration… when you touch the brake pedal lightly, the pads contact the rotor, but there is still enough room for the pad to move around and vibrate… then when you press harder on the pedal, it goes away, cus you have fully taken up the clearance, and the pad cant vibrate! so heres what you should do… you can use a silicon based lube,(like grease, but better for this) and slop some on the back of your pad surfaces, were it contacts your caliper and piston… or isntead of silicon, got to cnd tire and get some brake anti squeal, and its a spray, and spray that on to the back of your pads… its basically just glue designed to take up that clearance thats giving you that squeal!!! but this only works if your pads are still in good shape…
oh and some fast info on pads…
there are 4 types of brake pads…
organic
semi metalic
metalic
ceramic
organic doesnt last very long, makes lots of dust, but wont wear out your rotors hardly at all and they are quiet…
metalic are loud (griding sounds), but last a very long time, usually longer than your rotors, and make far less dust…
semi metalic is an attempt at the best of both worlds…
ceramic is the ultimate in brake pads… long life, almost no dust, exellent heat disapation… but they are very loud, and usually expensive…
now when i say loud, i dont mean squeally, i mean like a grinding noise…any pad will potentially squeal if they is no dressing on the back of the pad, so “high metal content pads” shouldnt really make a difference
