My wifes audi has a weird brake problem i cant figure out yet.
Issue: her fron driverside brake squeels while braking and when turning right…
I took it apart last week and noticed the inner pad had created a record like groved surface on thr rotor after like 10k miles… I figured the pad may have not seated properly last time i did the pads/ rotors so i bought new pads and a new rotor and put them on tonight…
Went out for a test drive and the same issue persists on a new set of rotors/pads…
Pads were installed with a healthy dose of no squeel and the are “thermo quiet” pads…
Still the brake makes a ton of noise while stopping and while turning left…
Any ideas? Only thing i can think of is caliper… But the caliper isnt ceased, i was easily able to push the piston in with a c clamp tonight…
Pedal also doesnt feel squishy, so i dont think its air in the lines, car has 54k on it, and probably is on original fluid ( ive never changed it)
I’m assuming this is a floating caliper? Did you take apart the slider bolts and clean and regrease those as well? My truck had an issue with one seized slider and it did similar things
It’s not that odd. One piston is extending farther or one side of single piston would be constantly pressed out farther and probably not move away from the pad meaning it probably has constant contact. Probably not enough to see with your eye but enough where it’s causing the problem. But then again maybe it isn’t a slider because when mine was seized in the cradle you couldn’t even push it in far enough to get the caliper over it to put the bolt back in it so who knows. Try the sliders and go from there. I’d do both sides or at minimum at least push and pull on them to see if they are hard to move at all.
I was trying to figure out if it could somehow be suspension or a wheel bearing causing this… but i cant see how…
The wheel bearing i think is out as a suspect, because of all the noise under braking, not just the left turn…and it doesn’t have the same HUM as a wheel bearing does when turning, its definitely just the inboard pad being a bitch…
Bearing sound would go away when you turned to the side that was being an issue and would only hum when going straight and when turning to the opposite side of the problem. You could get a whole rebuild kit for the caliper or just buy a rebuilt one which would entirely rule out the problem of anything else. That’s super shitty if it’s the caliper considering the miles on the car. I’ve got quite a few miles on my truck and it’s had plenty of issues but nothing where it needed a caliper replacement. Oh well shit happens I guess. Good luck and hope you get it fixed.
