So I’m in the process of putting a motor into my ek for a daily. She’s a lil rough looking. I was thinking about goin to maaco to have it painted. It’s got a little bit of rust on the rear corners, but I’m gonna take care of that before hand.
Anyone have any experience with them? Ithe whole car needs to be sprayed, and I don’t wanna spend a whole lot of money, but i don’t want it to look like shit
I have heard that it really depends on how much prep work YOU do as they are fairly lazy that way because they charge almost nothing. i also heard it really depends on the shop. Some Maacos do awesome work some not so good
If you put the time into wet sanding and buffing the clear… I will shoot it on a nice day outside your house and the paint job will come out 10000 times better.
as I said i heard it depends on the shop, and how good of a job they feel like doing that day
I’ve seen maaco do some decent work on cars that were not so bad or that were prepped before hand.
It also depends on how much you want to pay, I have also seen a few cars that have had everything done by them and it came out pretty decent. Basicvly just gotta tell them what you want.
FYI black basecoat gal., reducer/basemaker, middle of the road clear gal, hardner, sealer primer gal… your looking at $350 or so from napa. Same paint I shot on 91-240’s body kit. I was plesently suprised by how howell it shoots. ANNND its the same paint that I shot on OhhhnoPoPo’s blue bike… so as you can see, its all in the prep and the painter.
I told how $500-800 depending on how much body work and shit I had to do. I keep kicking myself for working like “imported” labor, but what ever its fun for me. If you help me prep the car: wetsand, degrease, mask off sand some filler… that will keep the cost closer to $500 mark I guess.
I should just build a damn shed that would hold a car at my house and make it a paint booth! lol
They are still cheap… but it’s because they use single stage for all the gangsta jobs. You can pay (a lot) more and have base/clear done @ Maaco, but it’s up with a normal body shop’s price.
As far as good cheap paint goes, Trinity 1942 brand sprays nice and looks amazing for the money @ paintforcars.com, also Summit Racing sells their line of paint that is rebadged Kirker and that is decent too. The only problem with either is you will be limited in color choices.
My cousin can paint if you are looking for a cheap job. He is probably not as thorough as Mike, but he can lay metallics just fine. He paints professionally at a shady car dealership (LOL).
the schenectady auto body paints shoot awesome and I have yet to get a mis-matched blend from them.
the napa stuff actuall is damn good for what you pay. They also sell some higher $$ stuff too thats really good and they can mix anything under the sun too.
