Maaco Paint Jobs

Hey Avery,

Here’s a guy in the Toronto Area that swears by his $50 formula for painting!

Here’s the original thread:

Here are the results…

Get this…this is the kicker… he recommends using a High Density Foam ROLLER, a can of TREMCLAD and mineral spirits (to thin the paint).

A few guys I know are trying this! If you need a bodyshop, I know of a shop in Etobicoke.

id love to try that roller painting thing its awesome

This guy is an original badass:

the paint buffs to mirror so i see no need for a clear coat. they have a clear coat in the tremclad brand made for the paint but i don’t think it’s nescessary. i reciently buffed out a huge scratch when a guy tried to jump me at a drive thru atm (long story!!!) and i florred it ran over his feet turning tires, and pinned him between the wall and my car. the whole rear quarter had a really bad scuff, maybe it was his teeth and the buttons on his jacket, anyways it buffed right out, with clear it would be hard to do that. so i would say there’s no need for clear unless you really want a show car finish. thing i like about this paint ALOT is that there’s no need for primer, primer sealer, ect… it really simplifies the process. shooting a base clear or single stage acrylic enamel is a pain, u have “windows” to shoot each coat, and putting the primer sealer on, you have to shoot color within 30 mins or 15 days, man what if something goes wrong? lol

The one thing that no one seems to catch on with this guy’s $50 paint job is the hundreds of hours of wetsanding he put in.

With enough wetsanding you could literally paint a car with a piece of shrubbery and get the same results.

If you don’t know how to wet sand properly, your paint job will not turn out the same.

He’s obviously had a lot of practice. Now, would he himself paint your car for $50?

The reason it was so cheap was because he was able to do all the work himself.

If you can do all the work yourself, you could do it with a gun for $50 too.

MAACO offers a lot of different packages. If it has a 5-year warranty, it’s not going to be the cheap package.

Just like Fairdeal will paint any car from $199 … they can also do a $4,000 paint job.
