Manual car + Remote start = ?

I’m looking to have a specific remote starter installed in my 12 wrx. Never had one installed on a manual. Where should I take it?

After seeing what the so called “installers” think is a proper way to wire them up in the cars I’ve bought with them already installed, my vote is do it yourself.

Bdr50

Fixed, but yes definitely PM him.

+1 on BRD5oh. Did the install on my Murano and it was perfect. We were talking about options for my manual GTO while he was hooking up the Murano.

BD5oh…Derrick is the man

 for Derrick.

He did my 08 Wrx manual had a safety mode so it would not start in gear

Will do. Thanks fellas.

I have a Compustar for sale that came out of my 2010 WRX if you are interested. Used for a year works perfect.

Do this. Years ago addictedtoboots jay had one on his civic started it and drove the car into my work building lol

It’s possible to bypass the clutch using a relay, but that involves cutting the wire which I’d shy away from. Some of the higher end viper remote starts have a clutch wire specifically for manual vehicles so you just have to tap into it, which is probably your best bet. Starting at the viper 4204, up to the 5204 and 5704. From what I’ve seen on the newer Subarus though, the only way to bypass the vats system is to give up a key and have it permanently mounted in the ignition cylinder. I don’t believe anyone’s cracked the firmware on the newer imprezas, though I could be wrong.

at basil ford we use the i-datalink company for our remote starts that used to need to have a key with a chip inside put near the ignition cylinder.

heres what it looks like you need.

At bby we use the flashlogic FLCAN, it’s literally identical to the idatalink one you posted. I’m just not certain whether or not they cracked the firmware for the newer Subaru yet, if they haven’t then he’d need to give up the key to make it work.

EDIT: But after looking at the applications listed for the unit you posted, it seems like they have cracked it.

DONT PUT A CUT KEY NEAR YOU CYLINDER!!! get a key programmed but not cut! cause if you had a thats cut and programmed anyone can open that box and have a joy ride

wont work on that car anyways … i have to clone one of his keys … car manufactures are getting VERY smart on immobilizer security

Sounds like a pita already. Good thing I already bought it eh BDR?

I did some research with some other local techs, and found out it is possible to do it without giving up one of the keys. If you have two copies of the key for the vehicle, you can use the FLCAN bypass to simulate a copy of one of the keys. You need both keys during the programming step once the unit is installed, but it is possible to do without giving up any of the keys.

Unfortunately the FLCAN will only bypass the vats system and won’t do the lock/unlock/trunk release through data, so you’d have to hook those wires up individually if you’re looking at a r/s unit that controls that as well. Same thing with tapping into factory alarm/disarm wires.
