March 2017 Snowmageddon

Don’t school districts budget snow days into their calendars? They probably haven’t used many yet and are trying to use them up.

They do budget them (typically 5-7), but if they are not used then there’s just that many more days in the school year. Some districts will opt to give a day back later in the year to extend a weekend, such as Memorial Day, but it all varies by district.

7:40 am in amherst, so far I am not shocked. my car isnt even covered.

I decided to hyperlapse my commute figuring if I didn’t make it, and I probably wouldn’t based on the news, it would document my last moments. Somehow I survived.

Did we all make it thought the night? Anyone snowed in and need rescuing.

Anyone else noticing the correlation between being anti-trump vs pro-trump and the “it was right to close everything today” vs “this is stupid everything is closed” debates on FB? It’s like all the little snowflakes are scared of snowflakes when they fall from the sky.

I’ve chalked it up up to the people who believe the media like it’s the best thing since sliced bread. They follow everything the news says and reacts accordingly.

Also:

Roads were not bad at all from North Buffalo to EA. Although I was tempted to push someones van with my truck. They couldn’t get over 3 mph while trying to move through an intersection and almost hit 2 cars in the process. :picard:

They’re doing a pretty shitty job on the Thruway between Rochester and Buffalo for as little snow as there is.

Public officials: Close the schools, close the thruway, buy all the bread, buy all milk!

Weatherman: Oops, we might have been wrong…

They closed school for my precious little ball of angel semen. We got a whole 1"…

They’ve been overworked this season.

@LINk78

lmao wasn’t me! Been driving around sliding ass no problem.

Seems like this last year they don’t plow or salt as much as they used to. Just close down the highways and let people get stuck on the streets.

Not that this is happening right now, looks like a normal winter day to me so far. I’d be surprised if we really get a storm.

According to the news we’re closing on the DAILY SNOW RECORD for this date.

In the fine print though the tell you the record is only 6.5" and by “closing in” they mean we’re almost to 5" total for the day.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a storm blanket the entire Northeast like this and cover all of NYS.

Looks to be picking up intensity out there now with some lake effect kicking in from Lake Ontario.

Wicked.

They closed the thruway to truck traffic around 11:00, that’s usually a precursor to closing the thruway so I figured I’d just head home and work from there before so I didn’t have to take 33. Thruway was totally clear all the way to 490 by then.

I don’t get it. We’ve had so much worse with basically no issues. Is this just because downstate is getting more than normal so they’re just panicking statewide?

I think that’s it. I work for the state and my office is closed today. I think it’s because they’re spazzing out downstate.
