This what happens when your governor spends the week ripping the utilities for their wind storm response and it forces him to grossly overreact to cover his ass on his snow storm response.
Hopefully he gets stuck in his vehicle on the side of the road somewhere.
Got prolly a foot here in South Wales/Holland.
They already cancelled Alden schools for tomorrow…might have 3 inches on the ground…
tons of snow here in rochester. I got the sled out and ripped around. did over 10mi around the city lol
Snow Day pt2, drinking scotch again
my buddies were cruisin downtown roch by the liberty pole.
it’s pretty bad now in northtown, definitely got my winter driving fix today. drove 50+ miles on a manual with blizzak= satisfying feeling.
I definitely had some fun out there tonight. Had a bunch of jobs to get done today, so lots of parking lot hooning to be had.
I’m that guy who took off his snows weeks ago and while my all seasons are ok, my confidence in my little Corolla was not the best on the 33. Got on, got right back off and wound up taking Genesee all the way into downtown. Not a bad ride but the roads certainly were not great, but nothing impossible to drive through. Just drove back and it was actually pretty nice being the only one out on the road.
Son’s school closed for the 2nd day in a row. Had to really think about putting the plow on vs. shovel last night. Cuomo is a joke.
Day 2 closed for pretty much every WNY school. Our transformation to vaginas is complete.
Yeah, seems like around 20 inches so far, another 5-8 today.
Do you guys not have much snow out there? Definitely appropriate to close things out here to at least keep traffic down.
It’s picked up some since 7am but NOAA’s totals around here were around 15-16" as of 8am but it’s been spread out over almost 36 hours so the plows have kept ahead of it. With the snow that’s been coming down since 7am it was probably a good call to close the schools, but yesterday it was just stupid. The roads were good at 7am and by noon most of them were down to pavement.
I did not expect this much…city is a mess…
Yesterday’s concern for the schools was not getting the kids there, but getting them home. You have to remember a couple months ago what some districts went through to get their kids home when that huge lake effect band hit the southtowns. I know this was not lake effect, but that’s still planted in the back of the district’s minds. Plus, the State Ed. department basically sent out a memo Monday night saying that if districts chose to remain open, the liability would solely be on them if anything bad happened.
The roads downtown aren’t too good. I got stuck a little on a side street, had to rock the work van back and forth
Yeah, it’s starting to pile up today. Yesterday when I went home for lunch I didn’t even have to brush my car off. Just hitting the wipers was enough. I just walked up front and there’s a lot of snow piled on my car since 7am.
I heard from multiple teachers that the only reason the schools closed yesterday was because dipshit Cuomo did his statewide state of emergency. The schools contacted the state ed department for legal advice on being open during a state of emergency since our roads were fine and the forecast was for just 2-4" during the day and they were told there could be liability problems if there were any bus accidents.
^^^Exactly, there’s a reason many schools in this area budget 5-7 days into their school year for snow days. It’s not like they are going to look for reasons to use them, but they’re an insurance when needed. My district, like many, had not used any this year up to this point and we budget 7 or 8. Last year we budgeted 8 after the Snowvember incident and we wound up not using a single one. But yes, yesterday really boiled down to Cuomo’s decision to declare a state of emergency across the entire state. Otherwise most districts would have waited until the morning of to make their decision, in which case yesterday would have likely resulted in a normal school day for most schools across WNY. However, given how things picked up yesterday afternoon, it was probably a good decision nonetheless.
