Well Nick pretty much explains it in the above post. God just thinking/talking about it makes my blood pressure rise.
Thing that really burned my ass is I talked to that idiot just to confirm fitment and he reassured me that many people buy the damn thing and it fits like a gem. I should’ve told him my foot fits up his ass better.
You guys are just pussies. Lol. I think it would be a great starting point. I’d rather pay 80 dollars than try and dick around making a nice looking hump shape thing… cut the front up and reglass it. Shit… 80 bucks is nothing. I just bought a 300 dollar gas tank to cut up and it might not even work.
Alright money bags we get it. It was the most expensive “part” on my bike and it was $200 bucks. Nothing was salvageable out of it. Not the mounts nor “seat” nor sweet padding it came with. I would’ve had better luck with a piece of plywood as a seat.
Also you’re comparing a sub $1500 bike to a ~$20k+? bike.
lol. I’ll do some measuring and compare it to the sizing on the site. I will then contact a classy lady from the dark side of CL and see what happens first; aids or me buying this seat. I will report back with results.
LOL, I’d NEVER cut up a $300 tank…I’d 3-part mold it first, make a copy in fiberglass, then cut THAT up. Then probably cover it in carbon fiber for baller status and re-sell the $300-tank for $300 lol.
No, obviously not, but I still think it would be a good starting point for a seat. My point is that sometimes even though you’re buying parts, you still need to hack them up to make them work.
If it were me 70 bucks would be worth it just for the shape of the hump, because I don’t want to spend an entire day laying fiberglass over some rough cardboard shape, then sanding it, then bondo-ing that… But that’s me…
How was nothing salvageable? You had it on your bike, amiright?
I measured out a rough sketch of the tail dimensions from earlier. 6 1/4" at the tank base and 8 1/4" at the tail, 25" long. 6 1/4" tall tail section. With the cafe tail I wouldn’t be able to use the locking or folding features like the stock pan, but this tail would certainly profile the frame better, and look better too. I’m not quite sure what to do yet.
Is it just me or is this just a terrible DIY to have on a resellers website? I get the whole keep it stock, no welding thing, but this just seems really haggard.
Lets talk tires real quick. Lee at Empire just wants WAY too much. As much as i’d like to keep things local, cash is king and he is asking way too much. I’ll still have him mount and balance them.
The build thread I have drawn a lot of inspiration from is using the avon roadrunner/rider tires in size:
Sizes are 120/80/18 in the rear and 100/90/19 up front
I can source 120/90/18 and 100/90/19 online for a song compared to what Lee wants. I cannot seem to find 120/80/18 for the rear as easily. Will the taller ‘90’ rear really be an issue you think? And please, don’t try to sell me on cheaper tires. I am not interested.
Yeah he did, but hed have to order them in anyways. I can get Avons for just a bit more plus the additional cost of mount and balance. I’m totally ok with paying a little more for stickier rubber. You think a 120/90/18 is going to be cool with a 100/90/19 up front?
the 12/90/18 is just going to be taller…you’ll probably be fine, it’s just going to adjust your gearing. The good news is your speedo runs off the front wheel, so that part will still be accurate haha.
