Miata problem

well i got a 91 Miata, and i was up in rochester today and st started making a violent clunking noise i stoped right away assuming the driveshaft let go but that wasnt it, car still moves, hardly but it will still go into gear, i have a feeling its coming from the rearend, any input suggestions would be much appreciated, its a 91 1.6l 5speed

thanks,
andy

do they have IRS? does it clunk faster when you go faster and slower if going slower? does the noise go away when you push in the clutch?

^ new clutch, no noise will you let off the clutch and start driving, faster you go louder and more the thing shakes.

is it rpm related or just speed? sorry for all the questions just helping narrow down what it might be

Differential
It fails on the 1.6 under stock power…
