Misfireing

I have a SR20DET blacktop and recently I was pushing my car and after about 5000 RPM it starts to misfire or backfire very fast and the car doesn’t pull anymore until I shift. I have no idea what it is. If anyone knows what it could be please let me know.

Thank you

plugs

yea i would start off with checking the plugs check both sides the tip and the white ceramic part i had a problem with my plugs the ceramic side cracked i kept checking the tips, if u have replaced them or they are good still then check for a leak in ur intercooler system maybe u mite have to tighten a clamp or something. i had put a new bov and had a very small leak from when i put the hotpipe back on and it back fired on full throttle around that rpm so yea.

I just put new plugs in and it worked fine but now it got worse and the engine either backfires or just chokes and cuts off all power until i let go of the gas pedal. We checked the MAF cleaned it with break fluid and it helped a bit but now it backfires less and just cuts off now. I’m gonna check the BOV and the intercooler. Thanks for the help.

i had the same problem.
i took apart my maf to find out it was in half. and wasnt a fully functioning maf.
i changed that and it runs like a champ now. and check ur bov. cus i know ever sicne i went back to my old bov my car fellt laggier

what is your fuel pressure at and how high is your boost ??

its your MAF…
too much fuel not enough air…not reading properly…

thus the back firing its going right into your exhaust instead of the plugs igniting it all… thus a slight flood = no spark (your lagg and stutering) but instead of killing the motor it gets pushed down the exhaust… and manages to ignite enough to stay alive

sounds like a boost leak to me.

Yeah if you cleaned your MAF and put new plugs in, definitely check for boost leaks.

Yeah I think I’ll change my MAF and check for a boost leak. It has to be one of those two because they are the ones that keep popping up. I also heard that I should change my Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter. Thanks for the help everyone I’ll have an update on the situation soon.

What type of plugs did you get, and did you check the gap on them? The more boost you run the shorter you need to gap it. I believe the plugs you get from crappy tire come with a 1mm+ gap and for SR20 I believe they need to be gapped to 0.7mm.

No I got my plugs from Pacific Mall some Iridium plugs. Not sure what they are called I’ll check tomorrow for the exact name but I’m only running 8 pounds of boost. By the way anyone know where i can get a MAF for a good price for my SR engine???

SOHC KA MAF will work with SR. They are cheap at the scrapyard.
