:word: I use Mobil1 in all my cars, and change it every 3K.
No need to change every 3k with mobil one, BMW uses it in their cars, first oil change, 15K, and they put their money where there mouth is ==> Warranty. Also I think some of the other German automakers follow this as well. I go about 10K on my passat with Mobil1.
X…
I follow this chart and the factory owner’s manual spec’d 10k oil change intervals.
http://www.vw.com/vwcom/content/objects/pdf/service_maint/oilchart.pdf
Turbo = High Heat = Oil Breakdown = Me changing every 3K
Better Safe than Sorry, plus oil contaminants like blow by wont all get caught by the filter, and how about 15k miles worth.
Also you are using manufacturer’s specs for normal driving, and none of us would be considered driving normal driving conditions. We are in a much higher heat range most of the time(ie. WOT often), making for faster chemical break down of your oil. I would personally never go 10K or 15K miles. Maybe 5K, with good oil, and maybe about 6-7k with the 15K oil, but that is still pushing it.
Just my 2cents
i do not want to single anyone out but i run one these a year, http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ to tell what is going on, because if you get enough people togather you can convince them to change thier oil every 10 miles.
with the extended interval oil you are still soposed to change your filter at the factory reccomended intervals.
There is usually an engineered factor of safety for products that hit the market. Since I can reason this out to potentially govern a human life, the standard factor of safety is 4 to 5 when human life is involved. (except planes, 1.5)
This leads me to believe my oil should be changed every 75,000 miles.
so this is the correct answer: every 74,999 miles is when you should change your oil.
