Not to mention there isn’t really any imperical evidence linking gun control to crime rates. Take a look at post-ban Australia, or the US during the Brady Bill era. Crime rates stayed in sync with the economy, not with gun control legislation. Weird, right?
that is a good point/argument. However, I will continue to hold to my “I’ll believe it when I see it” argument.
Only reason being that I don’t know enough about the demographic of the people that actually live in switzerland or other example places. I will say that the concept makes sense though. I just fear that the opposite will happen. Instead of people not commiting crime in fear of gun fire, I am afraid that it was just antagonize gun wars. I just don’t know. Do I think it is a chance that we should take? At the moment, I don’t think I would want to be around it./
I’m pretty much with ZD on this one. People that want illegal weapons will find ways to get them. Laws only affect law abiding citizens.
Yeah but under Article 4 Montana doesn’t have the right to nullify Federal law.
You justify one unconstitutional event then you open the door to other unconstitutional events. That was my point.
This argument has been played to death. The government is not going to take your guns away. They are not going to pass a new AWB.
This shit is just because republicans held power for so long and cannot comprehend not having that power.
Its a Democracy, convince more people you are right, obtain more votes and win seats. Don’t have a hissy fit and call for secession.
Fucking traitors to the nation. You people are literally bringing about the conflict you say you are “arming” yourself for just because you can’t handle not being in power.
No one is going to take your guns, stop scaring this nation into thinking they need to have a gun under their pillow to sleep now that the Democrats are in control.
:picard: I for one will be surprised if there isn’t more gun control legislation within a year.
+1, but you need to post in a bigger font. :banghead:
beat me to it…
wait a year… we’ll see who still has guns. What I’m concerned about is that it won’t be the people who follow the rules.
This is exactly how it works. If I went to TX and picked up a CZ-82 and brought it back here, by NYS law I would need to turn it in to the police. It would be held until I filled out the paperwork, and waited for my NY pistol permit…[/QUOTE]
This only works if the original purchaser retains posession of the gun. Once it leaves the original purchaser’s hands, it becomes interstate commerce. I doubt that any judge would counter that thought - whether it was sold “retail” or secondhand from the original owner. It’d be hard to distinguish those secondhand sales as coming from private individuals vs. corporate resellers.
And in the end, it could be rendered moot anyway. The Feds enforced seatbelt laws by threatening designated highway money - so they could do that here as well (and I wouldn’t put it past Pelosi to do that).
And yet if there is its going more legislation passed which I doubt, it will be because too many assholes are being paranoid and doing stupid things like what happened in Binghamton and Pittsburgh.
I own a gun my family owns many guns I am not afraid.
These nutjobs stocking up and calling for secession scare me more than the federal government.
Just received this email…
Anti-Gun Senate to Ban Private Gun Sales
Sens. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ), Jack Reed (D-RI) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have joined Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and victims and family members of the Virginia Tech tragedy, to introduce legislation to eliminate the private transfers of firearms and close the nation’s “gun show loophole.”
I am sure that you agree with this so don’t even bother posting stroked.
What has this administration done that has given you any inkling that they want to take away guns? Do you really think they’d waste their political capital to try to push a social issue where public opinion is AGAINST them when they have the economy and health care to fix?
I don’t know enough about this law to comment but showing only 3 democrats doesn’t exactly show a huge swing of support for this bill.
Obama is not going to waste his time on an issue that he can’t win because there is no real support for it.
Not that I believe he would push gun-ban legislation.
give him time…
for what? All conservatives and a huge chunk of liberals dont support that kind of legislation.
Your guns, my guns will be fine.
No way this would hold up. The SCOTUS has upheld the power of Congress to legislate on matters such as this under the Commerce Clause. There is certainly a reasonable assumption that the firearms manufactured in the state will enter the stream of commerce and make their way across state lines eventually. BS
I can’t bring myself to read any more of these threads because they are always 50% strokedZ28 reminding everyone that republicans are whiney crazy sore losers. I have nothing against you strokedz28, but not everyone thinks red vs blue. I could care less if someone is labeled a republican or democrat as long as they had logic and understand the constitution.
typically when I talk about republicans and democrats I’m talking about politicians and the pundits.
I should be more clear, my bad.
ah, ok I understand. It’s just that you seem to direct it towards the board.
Carry on then.
BTW: I was trying to convince the fiance that we should move to Montana but I don’t think she will budge on that one.
