It really is, I’m going to have the rest soda blasted.
I woulda dropped that shit off to jesse dirty as hell haha.
Awesome thread. I’m going to be searching for a cruiser this winter.
What are you using to clean the motor?
Purple Power and lots of brushes.
This build is going to turn really cool soon, a lot of neat ideas for this bike.
gsxr1000 motor? you won’t.
One week later a biker down thread will follow…
" Motorcyclest looses control on 990. Witeness say brakes burst into flames. "
Haha, nice.
There’s going to be some cutting, some hammering and some welding in the near future
For now, there’s craigslist and selling uneeded parts.
Big update:
Commence the cutting!
Taking off the seat tabs:
Taped off where we plan to cut:
Weight mod!
The plan is to level out the sub frame so that we can make a seat pan that flows to the tail:
Cleaning up the cuts:
Finished, for now:
HUGE thanks to Nick (Focusinprogress) for letting me bring the frame over and helping me with the welding/cutting process
The bike as it sits stock, is an “L” model, which means the rake of the tank and seat position look retarded for cafe builds. Many people claim L models are only good for bobbers or scrap metal, we plan on proving them wrong.
Stay tuned for more updates!
this build is going to be super rad and fun to do. we did some measuring with our eye-crometers and it’s going to flow REALLY well for such a simple frame mod. Can’t wait to see this thing done!
lol, we are slowly assembling a wicked crew of cafe bikes its gonna be awesome.
This.
I have so much work into the pan I never posted up or documented. the frame work, the trans mounting plate ect. I got a compliment everytime I took the bike out and my buddies would get mad. All they do Is paint stuff and handle bars.
super legit measuring devices
and i thought that garage and guy in the first pic looked familiar…
Hey, I’m working on it!! I like riding my bike as well haha
Big UPDATE!!
So, a little backstory first though. The GS750 that I own is an L model, this means it came with king/queen seat, smaller rear wheel, higher handlebars…etc. Basically…it was a girls bike or used strictly for road trip cruising. A lot of member on TheGSResources.com hate the L model for all it’s worth, but a few have actually begun “un-L-ing” the L models. This usually involves new handlbars, E model seat, and a few other misc parts. The guys that build cafe GS’s will not touch the L model because of the rake on the frame and the low sub frame. One member did, but when it came to the seat pan and tail, there was a huge gap from the seat to the tank. SOOO…
Long story short, Nick (Focusinprogress) and I decided to modify the frame and “un-L” the bike for good in the form of a cafe racer.
On to the pictures…
What we were aiming for…
Sleeving the inside of the frame tubes for support, note the large gap on the top subframe tube
Ready to weld…
Final product, as of now. We cleaned up the welds and hit them with some paint to protect from rust as well, after this picture was taken of course lol.
I’d like to thank Nick SO MUCH for helping me with this project, he’s the man
Stay tuned for more updates, we have a TON of ideas for this build!
is that flux core welding? ewww haha
the frame looks awesome
yeah, it’s flux-core welding…I don’t weld often enough to spend the dough on a tank of argon to keep around and most of the minor jobs I do dont really require gas-sheilded welding lol.
