I actually wanted to get the motor fully scrubbed down and ready for paint but I find that it’s nearly impossible to reach each and every nook and cranny.
It looks good in pictures but I’m not satisfied with what it looks like in person. I can still see little bits of grime and what not. Ehhh…idk. I just hate spending money on soda blasting if I do not need to.
when you get as far as you feel you can with the dawn/simple green/purple power…just hose the bitch down with a couple cans of ultra cheap brake cleaner, then rubbing alcohol just before paint.
yeah, dont use that shit. if it makes its way into gaskets you’re gonna hate life. brake clean the areas you feel still have grease/oil residue and then rubbing alcohol the whole thing religiously for good paint adhesion
I posted up on TheGSResources, I guess aircraft stripper is the way to go. Just spray and brush it all over and then hose off. Won’t harm any gaskets and since I have new ones anyways it won’t make a difference. Perfectly safe to use on the motor lol. That’ll save me a TON of time now lol.
I can swing by sometime tomorrow, I’m supposed to head out towards Derek’s place around 5 to get the Rage Gold, I can stop by your house on the way back
Eagle one mag and aluminum cleaner an a brush will work also. Not quite as harsh as aircraft stripper. I’ve used it numerous times on my aluminum fourwheeler motor and it will make it look brand new every time.
The lower case isn’t painted, only the upper case and head, but I plan on stripping everything and painting it all. VHT caliper paint in cast aluminum is a very close match to OEM and is proven to work on many of these GS restorations.
I used VHT Caliper Paint in Cast Aluminum, it’s chemical and abrasive resistant and perfect for the motor. I haven’t baked any of the parts yet, I will on Sunday.
