I always find serial killers fascinating, which I guess this guy really isn’t but still. Ted Kaczynski was extremely smart, and earned a PhD from Harvard after being accepted at 16.

Everyone tries to rationalize his behavior, think through what will logically happen next with copy cats, legislate to prevent it from happening again. What ever happened to crazy? I thought he was planning on a massive shootout too until I read today that he was taken down by police at his car as he was taking off his body armor and they said he seemed surprised police arrived as soon as they did. That plus the 6000 rounds in his car it makes you wonder if the movie theater was just his first target for the night.
All these people calling for new laws and security measures really need to take a step back and think about this. These mass shooters are motivated and intelligent. They plan these things often for months. No amount of regulations is going to stop a motivated and intelligent person who’s made up their minds to commit these kinds of crimes.

Pretty much. But feeling helpless in the wake of a tragedy sucks ass. There is comfort in action.
That makes for the perfect opportunity for politicians to make sure that that comforting action is their agendas that they couldn’t push otherwise. See: Patriot Act in the wake of 9/11, or hell even the New Deal during the Great Depression. People are most willing to hand over their rights when they feel helpless.
This country is slowly swirling down the toilet.

I bet people said the same thing during other recessions and in times not the greatest in general. I still think our nation is pretty spectacular.
Spectacular for our freedoms yes. Shitty for how socialist we have become and are continuing to move. I will never complain about how fortunate I am and the life I live compared to others, but there is a lot that is wrong in this country and if not fixed all of our luxuries will eventually start to evaporate.

The jounalists reported what happened, great job guys. Is it their job to report any little detail about any of the victims, family and friends they can? I mean honestly what is the point of all this? I just don’t get it, in fact it kind of makes me not even want to know about events like this which is bad, right? Do the details of their lives make them more special than other humans? People died, I GET IT! It is like the media feels it is their job to convince the public that this was bad.
