Love it
Guy I knew in college had one of these in 6spd. Never got a chance to ride in it/drive it though, I think my roommate might have though. Definitely unique
Definitely saws this in West Seneca driving past Flatterys last night…if not then someone has the EXACT same car. FUCKING. DOPE.
Such a nice car MPD…
No more than 5 mintues later I saw a sick Porsche (IDK WTF it was GT2, Carrera, etc…) Turbo Covnertible get some 110 at Delta Sonic off Ridge. Some serious wheels in WS last night.
I was going to say that that BDR probably knows the guy with the black 850, I see it in the metro parking lot on Military on my way to work. Doesnt he have a plate that says BMW2NV or something gay. That and the chrome rims make the car sweet. I have seen a CSI once in buffalo. I didnt even know they made manual 850s besides CSI until now.
What are the usually problems with 850? They seem to fit the bill to as a realitively cheap car to purchase, but that would be due to the large expense to keep running.
it’s basically 2x the maintenance of most other BMWs of the era… it’s almost like they have 2 x 6 cly engines since it has 2 ECUs, 2 batteries, etc…
overall they can be a little bit like playing the lottery.
random trivia - the 8 series was the first car ever to be fully designed in CAD.
I still think they are a great candidate for motor swaps like the 2jz, rb, titan
I’m not swapping it. Though I was originally looking for a roller to do a 2JZ in.
Wasn’t me Luke, I’ve just been driving mine around my house in Rochester while I fix some stuff on it.
Spencer, Electronic throttles die (they had them from '89-'99), headlight buckets fall apart, the ECU system fails (Twin bosch motronics with a 3rd box linking the two of them together, one for each bank), water pump dies all the time aparently (and you have to take apart the entire front end of the engine and car to service it), valve covers will continue to leak unless you bond them onto the heads, rockers sometimes break, the transmission is $4.5k and you pretty much can’t find them used, clutch kit is $2k+ for anything decent (unless you realize that 540/M5 stuff is a direct swap). Front end components is shared with e34’s so you have to replace the front arms every 20k or less or it shakes like a bitch. Mine need to be done right now but I’m looking into converting it to e39 stuff, which hasn’t been done before on e34/e31 so I get the stronger arms/bushings and I can run a conventional coilover without building something or breaking the bank. That’s uhh the short list?
I spotted the same one Luke, but knew it wasn’t mike since the bumper wasn’t caked in rubber.
swapping a 2J into this would be incredible… get rid of all of the relaibility issues with the motor and electronics…
In any event, it was sex on wheels for sure. The lights where on and you know how you can tell the type of car just by the headlights? Well I never seen this particular style before…it got closer and closer. My god, It was so sleek looking. The hood makes it looks like there is a V10 in there.
Hope to see yours close up sometime.
That makes me feel better to know I am not seeing things. I’m like what are the Fucking odds that I see that car right after Mike gets one. It is rare to see that two REALLY nice cars so tightly grouped, at night none the less, and not have them be from NYSpeed.
The Guy driving the Porsche was in his late 30s. It was Black/Possilby Dark Blue, Vert, Lowered, Sick Exhaust, Split Spoke 18s, with Red Calipers. The Headlights had the " . . . . . . " look for the turn signal.
DO NOT WANT
Nope, just a V12.
Ha, clearly I know nothing about these…I do now. Thanks Wikipedia!
Now I know why bing was all giddy in the pants about this. I feel the same way.
^Meh, the 850CSI is the only one that interests me.
the CSI is not really that much better than a regular 850i… you get some bumpers, different wheels, and another ~60hp from memory.
The 850CSi’s modified suspension included stiffer springs and dampers and reduced the car’s ride height. The recirculating ball steering ratio was dropped 15% over the stock E31 setup. The model also sported wider wheels, with the option of forged alloys. The front and rear bumpers were reshaped for improved aerodynamic performance. Four round stainless steel exhaust tips replaced the square tips found on other models. The 6-speed manual gearbox was the only transmission option. In Europe all 850CSi’s came with Rear Wheel Steering (AHK - Aktive Hinterachs-Kinematik).
Well imho it is better.
while we are on the subject, do not want:
do want:
AHK is not standard on CSi’s, dunno where you read that, there was a topic on the 8 board about it recently. It’s got the steering box from the e34 M5 and Mtechnic wheels from it (though they were 0.5" wider) IIRC. OOoooooh so much different! Nothing you can’t bolt on.
MPD will basically MPDize everything you just said was better in the CSI.
Luke, i am pretty sure Mike and I had a texting romance as soon as i found out about this.
Oh all the things i would do and buy if i were single, new how to work on cars, mysteriously financed and were named Mike.
Well its just my opinion, I always prefer more powa too.
A car looks only as good as the owners vision on what a good car will look like…or some Zen shit like that.
Can’t wait to see where you take this MPD.
You could do that; steal Ving, move to US, go to Car college, become a Pimp, and change name to Mike. No?
