i trained at summit martial arts… my contract was up in nov, so i am just working out and sparring on my own til i go back, although, some bigger places have interested me, places with more room and actual rings and more equipment… this place is small, but intimate and spiritual, i have a lot of repsect for the people that run the place
Interesting. I would like to find somewhere to train when i move back to b-lo but im not really sure i will have the time. Then again thats only an excuese anyhow.
I’ve been looking into starting Ju Juitsu. Not brazilian Ju Juitsu, Japanese. That is where Akido, Judo, and Karate come from…they all separated from Ju Juitsu. Its a hell of a martial art.
sometimes they have muay thai camps, that are on a sunday, for like 6 hours… that is intense. this is contract free as well, a nice option for people who dont have contracts at the place
Cool i will make sure i contact you and a few other guys once i am looking for a place to go in b-lo. But that will be like 20ish months from now. Right now we have a gym here and they have gear and a nice ring for us to use so we can fight whoever whenever. The experience ive gotten from just fighting a few rounds 1-2 times a week has been great but i need some formal training for sure.
krav is lame. there are way better arts out there.
and to the BJJ sack riders talking about how you will win a fight downtown. have you really ever seen a fight were someones friends don’t get involved? a knee dropped on your face, and people kicking you in the ribs while you are trying to choke someone probably isn’t going to be pleasant.
UMMMMM NO and yes i have been in plenty of fights when i was a young dumbass and thought it was cool. I will fight from a stand but if i can take it to the ground its going there and the guy will be out cold in seconds and no longer have the ability do anything to harm me. Why would you suggest just exchanging standing blows. :wtf:
it’s practical self defense, which means I will probably hurt you pretty badly before your friends get involved, that - and I’m trained to use you as a buffer between your friends and me.
Yea I have plenty of confidence in what my actions would be lol. Although last “bar” fight i was in i knocked a guy out cold(the only time ive knocked someone out from a blow) and it was f’ing sweet i have to say. There are members on the forum who can attest to this as they were there. One hit KO too man i was on point. Probably because it was a haymaker that he didnt see coming but shit who am i to judge. I would like to add the getting involved with fights outside of a controlled situation is lame if you ask me.
i didnt say i would exchange. you would shoot, and then wake up laying on the ground with a broken something or other
boxing is as lame as krav.
perhaps i didn’t elaborate. if you can drop someone without going to the ground you are better off. yeah yeah yeah, being able to fight on the ground is important, but not having to go there is better.
It’s been said, but I will reiterate: Krav Maga/Haganah = not competitive, you learn very effective methods of staying alive in a physical confrontation. This usually involves severely hurting/killing your attacker. This is not submission or come-alongs. Just straight fighting. Muay Thai in its most common form is very different. You learn stand-up strikes and what amounts to competitive kick-boxing. This works great for self defense until your attacker takes you to the ground or grapples. If you want to compete don’t get into krav. You will learn the wrong skills. When you train to do one thing and compete with a different set of rules it’s not going to work out well. I can recommend a couple different school in a variety of disciplines. Pm me, check them out, talk to the instructors and then make your decision. I’m not sure any of us can tell you what’s best for you.
I’ve been in probably like 15 real fights in my life. only lost maybe 1-2. But I am the kind of person that will not quit untill I get knocked out. I did some wrestling in HS, studied Ishen Ryu, and did a little bit of boxing. I really want to get into JuJitsu though. It looks amazing and is a very formal, very agressive form of martial art.
Yea i probably wouldnt force it to the ground ie shoot but i would def go for a solid blood choke standing or if i saw an easy ground opp we are going down fool. Both of my chokes i suggested earlier in the thread can be done standing. Want to brawl, i gots the baby oil?
I realize you are kidding but we are mostly speaking about controlled situations like in a ring not bar/street fights. I like knowing i dont have to worry but i ont think most people train for their friday night encounters at “the club” lol,
You arent just going to shoot someone cause they are kicking you lame ass in a bar/street fight. If you would well good luck with that.
