OKay - I am unable to get some of the pics off the other camera, which I was really hoping to show you
Included on that one was the final welding, seam sealing the cowl up, plug welds, copper backer I made out of a piece of plumbing ( ) cutting up jute insulation for sound deadening, etc.
Here’s what’s on the primary camera.
So, the old insulation was cut, torn, and removed from the firewall. Everything here’s in pretty good shape, a flash always makes surface rust look worse than it is. Most of the brown is old insulation that got a nice “patina” from the rusty water falling down…
Here’s passenger footwell to driverside.
Here’s where the heater box and defroster plenum both back into the firewall. The hole in the center is where the blower motor peeks into the engine bay.
One of the great joys of working on a 40-year old car - figuring out what the other 8 owners did to the goddamn wiring. This is been fairly time consuming, but most of the shorts have been chased and replaced. NO, these splices aren’t mine
In the meantime, I’ve also been refurbishing interior panels. Here’s the steel glovebox door, heater controls and ashtray getting stripped and rustproofed. Assembly line style, L to R.
After some wire wool and elbow grease, it’s nakked :o
Early Mustangs didn’t use vacuum or electrics to operate heater controls - these were actuated by cables. As you can see here, my heater box didn’t work to well on that front (among other things ) Lower set of wires (with metal blend door still attached from the cardboard plenum  ) has a HUGE bend in them. New wires at top.
Let’s get this back where it belongs. Note the new firewall rubber / jute behind the heater case.
Finally… the sequential tails. These cars’ taillights flat-out suck. Picture a 40-watt bulb behind a red “magic decoder” film and you’re close. At night they’re dull. During the day they’re washed out, and if the sun’s at your back and you have to get on the brakes, they’re flat dangerous.
So - again, I have to replace the buckets, lenses, and seals, but I did test fit these to try them out.
I love this shit.
